Crystal Palace vs. Wolverhampton match thread

another couple of points from the game.

Hughes - back to his old ways. Stupid early booking and then a couple more silly fouls afterwards. When will he learn? It would have been harsh, but he could have been sent off.

Wharton's foul for the pen. Not sure how either the ref or VAR thought that wasn't a goalscoring opportunity. The bloke was in the penalty area with a clear shot and no one in front of him. We got very lucky there.

The double jeopardy rule came into play as considered a genuine attempt to play the ball so as they had the penalty it was yellow card only

The "double jeopardy" rule in the Premier League (and global football) mandates that if a player makes a genuine attempt to play the ball but commits a foul that denies an obvious goal-scoring opportunity inside the box, they receive a penalty and a yellow card instead of an automatic red card. This rule was implemented to avoid the "triple punishment" of a penalty, a red card, and a suspension.

You beat me to it!! It amazes me how some people don't know rules that have been in place for a while.
Our roy was one of the first to call for a change for penalties and the double jeopardy rule.

If Glasner stays on can someone please persuade him to play four at the back.
He can be adventurous and go 4-2-4 or even 442. Or 4-1-2-2-1 or any other modern day bollox, but im sure he will get my drift.
We played so much better like that yesterday after the subs.

I don't understand it either. OG says he tried 4 at the back in training but it didn't work so sticking with 3 CBs. Then he makes the subs, changes to 4 at the back, we look better that way and finally score. I know there are a lot of other affecting factors but I think I want to call BS on his claim that training showed it didn't work. Or maybe I'm missing something.

Sometimes its hard to adjust a system , for some reason the players took the 3 at the back like a duck to water , but find it harder to go back to a system they may have played since kids , its the old horses for courses , week of training they should be able to switch between the 2

Basically, at last….we had Lady Luck on our side!

A game we never looked like winning, but one decent move and we scored.

I’ll definitely take the 3 points, results went our way at the weekend, but TBH, I’ll be relieved when the season I over.

I prey the board have new management ideas, potential players and decisions are made before pre-season

I do know the laws of the game (not rules), or at least most of them as they are constantly updated, but these laws are clearly open to interpretation - look at hand ball as a prime example.

As Wharton was wrong side of the man he had no chance of making a clean tackle, so therefore as i stated, i thought he was lucky to stay on.

IMHO he and us got lucky.

Incidentally, there was a Newcastle game a few years ago (and a number of women's games) when an encroachment into the box at a pen was given as a goal kick rather than a re-take and this rule has been in place for over 50 years! So maybe you should be less amazed at human errors.

In the final analysis the referee blew his whistle and Krejci booted the ball away, accordingly Thomas Kirk had no option to brandish a second 'Yellow'.
I know you like to support the ref, but I am not convinced the player heard the whistle and the clearance upfield was instant. It certainly did not look like a time wasting/petulance action to me. The ref needed to give himself time to assess before brandishing the second yellow.
If that had happened to a Palace player we would all be going apoplectic

I watched the short highlights on the CPFC website. They consist of the kick off, the penalty build up and penalty, our goal and the final whistle. There is literally nothing else.

From memory there was also a cool corner routine that pino hit the post. He also had a lob. I think henderson also made a good save from a deflected looping shot? And also a free kick save.

I'm sure there was a red card in there somewhere too! 😅

I happen to believe that had a second 'Yellow' not been brandished, scores of our supporters would have lambasted the referee given that the player kicked the ball way after the whistle was blown.
The referee adhered to Law 12 and we were all delighted !
