Crystal Palace vs. Stockport match thread

I've been watching replays of the goal, both were involved. Ntekiah receives the ball out wide, knocks it inside to Kamada who does a driving run into the Stockport box, in which time Nketiah has darted off ahead in a supporting run, probably expecting a return pass, notwithstanding which, Kamada flicks a loose ball inside which the defender fails to deal with, leaving Eze to steal the ball, turn, and slot home nicely.
What am I trying to say? I'm not sure if the players involved are starting to gel and this was a practiced training ground move, or just a piece of good fortune on the day. I don't think Nketiah and Kamada will start together that often.

I think you are seeing the positive in it. Really direct running from Kamada made the goal.

Doesn't mean he's suddenly great, but does show he has ability.

Without bottomless funds, we're going to have to keep supporting these 2 (Nketiah and Kamada)

Makes you wonder then why we spent 30mil on Ntekiah and make Kamada our highest wage earner? Neither work in the present system and I have doubts they would in whatever system we use?
Plus from yesterday was Riad getting a full game as he looks like the only player along with Devenny capable of being part of our squad to either start or come on to keep the strength of the 11 starters in my opinion :-(

I recall reading a text from a member of the then hierarchy at the club (Some many years ago), the essence of which concerned the possible acquisition of a player. It read "A square peg in a round hole" - we never signed that player !

I agree we have to support Nketiah and Kamada but I’m still gobsmacked every time I see Nketiah shoot. He never ever glances up to place the ball. Always head down and just hit it in the general direction and hope!!!. This is why he fails so often. In his favour he’s light-footed, nippy and looks the part right up until it’s shooting time. Arsenal fans must be sniggering uncontrollably at the price we paid.

Watching the highlights again and the number of straightforward chances we missed was just painful to watch. One of those goes in and we’re talking about a comfortable win from basically the same performance. Year on year our finishing is woeful, Mateta aside. We were asking the question under PV and Roy what exactly are they doing in training to practice finishing. At least find the target. I’d ask the same question now.

I thought that was one of our main criteria. We catch people off guard by signing players that don't suit. Puts West Ham off.

Nketiah does find the target. Unfortunately he seems to be aiming at their goalkeeper

Despite rumours Kamada isnt our highest wage earner, Eze is. Kamada's wages are incorrectly stated, as they include a signing on fee, which is spread over the duration of his contract. Kamada had a decent game yesterday, but his previous displays have clouded opinion. Nketiah is no better than Edouard, why we bought him is a mystery, didnt pull up any trees at Arsenal, we should of bought Reiss Nelson instead.

Even Mateta’s finishing has been quite wayward at times this season. He’s missed some great chances. Arsenal at 1-2 comes to mind. Mind you he’s also scored an absolutely great goal vs Ipswich and his all round centre forward play has been really good

I doubt whether Arsenal fans are sniggering about anything today. 🙂

The latest update from Glasner (allegedly being reported from yesterday) is that Wharton is unlikely to feature for us ‘until the Spring at the earliest’.

The news about his return just keeps getting worse and worse and if that is accurate then we may well not see him starting for the first team again this season. I would love to know what has happened exactly. I feel sorry for the lad as this must be SO frustrating for him.
I believe he was playing with an injury earlier in the season and was having injections to keep him going
( do I remember correctly?) Could it be that this was counter productive and exacerbated his injury.

I thought Riadh got off to an excellent start for the first quarter, especially as he is still recovering. He made a couple of crass errors at the start of the second half and seemed to rattle himself. But he showed enough to say he has potentially got what it takes moving forwards. Just hope he makes a full recovery.
Nketia is one big disappointment.
Kamada showed he would be a very good player in Div 1.
My biggest concern has to be Wharton. Nobody at the club is giving any clear information, probably because no one really knows. That is what is so alarming.

they were significant outlays.

Weekly wage is c£200k a week and Eddie's transfer is £25m rising to £30m.

Many middle clubs in the prem would not be prepared to pay those wages e.g. Bournemouth.

We should not be spending those sums on squad players, that's the issue

JUST assume AW is out till next season - if he makes an appearance on the bench before May consider that a positive !

That's a nice share. Thanks!

Looks like he is very composed on the ball (when given time) and can pick a pass. Only 21, but looks potentially lightweight in the challenge and flustered in the press: at least one of those backpasses would have been intercepted by sharper opponents. Overall an exciting prospect.
He looks good on the ball and technically gifted for a centre half. Young as well so lots of room for improvement. As you say he probably needs to get a bit physically stronger and adapt to the pace of the EPL. Certainly not ready yet to replace any of our starting back three but could be a good long term investment

Painter i assume you are not an accountant. He get's the signing on fee and Palace pay it so it's included in the total outlay.
This has been the case for years - Sol Campbell was on £100k a week at Arsenal for 5 years. £60k wages and £10m spread over the 5 years, so an extra £40k a week.

It still leaves the club coffers and goes into the player's bank account.

Eze's quoted £100k a week will include a signing on element, that's how contracts work.

Not sure of your point, you basically repeated what i said. What is Kamada's weekly wage without signing on element? Weekly wage and total outlay are different, players transfer fee's aren't quoted in weekly wages, so why are signing on fee's?
Eze's signing on fee would be nowhere near Kamada's, due to his transfer fee.
