Crystal Palace vs Shakhtar Donetsk match thread

I never thought id hear 'we've got super Oli Glasner' again at Selhurst Park, but there it was tonight... there's a unity in the air: players, fans, mgt...

... I genuinely dont think playing 3 at the back will win you the league regardless of the club you manage... but it does make you a very strong cup team, especially as you go deep into a tournament... its an interesting dilemma. As someone who has been to all the Euro home games this season (including frederikstad), there have been been ups and downs, but clearly thats all water under the bridge now...

I hope we dont change too much from this template next season.

Premiership a must (but dont need to be top 10)
Every cup competition, take it seriously.
Keep bringing in the best young talent from Championship.
Strong youth team.
Strong women's team.

Honestly, it's been great. Two years ago to the week we demolished Man U 4-0!
Was great to hear that on the tv too! The unity was clear. Mateta and Glasner fully part of the positive vibes. A couple of things I loved from watching it on the sofa. Mateta walking over to the pundits desk uninvited, grabbing a mic and just assuming he's part of the post match interview, which was supposed to be Hendo only, and the fan who ran on the pitch and junped on several players eventually being put back in the crowd by Hendo - plenty of grounds he'd have been swamped by security and banned (even though he's a knob for doing it).

Has there every been a better refereeing performance than last night, let advantages play on, which was to our benefit. He showed Premier refs how useless they are, the only mistake was Pino's goal which wasn't offside, but VAR overruled him.
He was good wasn't he? Particularly for the second goal when he let things run when he could've blown up at least twice, or maybe three times. Think there was only one yellow and that was when he went back after playing an advantage.

Did his job without hogging the limelight too. The best refs are the ones you barely notice. Taylor et al please take note.

The icing on the cake last night was Villa thumping Forest. No Europa League trophy for the fat Greek!

Absolutely and I can't remember the last time I was so full of priase for a referee. Probably years and years. You could see for that second goal he was right there with his whistle ready to blow but was so focussed on allowing the advantage. There were a few challenges I thought should have been freekicks by todays standards however recognised I've just been groomed by modern football. Wish every game could be reffed like that it would massively improve the game. Loved how he left players on the floor too, especially the one Canvot clobbered. Get up and get on with it!

Alejandro José Hernández Hernández (so good they named him twice) maybe he enjoyed it after reffing Spanish players throwing themselves all over the shop.
Wish we could have him for the final.

If we do win it he'll have helped us out a lot.
1. Experience in a lower level competition.
2. A European trophy.
3. Two years in Europe.
4. Playing on Sundays means us expats get to see more games.
So yamas Mary.

It’s always best to go out on a high. If we win the Conference League Final, that will be 3 trophies inside thirteen months. That’s performance that will get some of the big European clubs interested in Glasner’s services.
I think I've identified the delays with the new Main Stand. It's because the trophy room keeps having to be enlarged, and plans re-submitted for approval. 😀

That was impressive. Not only the victory but run to the final. I wonder if fans would rather have retained the FA Cup for a second year or reached this end of tournament. I believe you can now go on and win the Final as you've already beaten a number of decent club names to get there and what great successive seasons that is from winning the FA Cup to appearing in a European Final.

The team from the early 90's that included Bright, Wright, Martyn etc that were entertaining to watch were probably good enough to reach a euro final back then I feel but you'll have to argue that yourselves. Take a large number to the final now you've done it wherever it's held in Europe and take in the moment.

It would be a good advert for England what with Aston Villa in the other Final so continue on and bring back the trophy. A West Ham relegation around the same time would be just fine.
I'd rather win the Conference league (and enjoy the final etc) than a FA Cup back to back. An european trophy would just be incredible, even if it's lesser than the FA cup - and we get Europa to look forward to.

What a night! Bit of a nervy start and I thought Shakhtar's approach play was great, luckily not the finishing. We grew into the game and scored goals at very good times. Second half we looked very controlled and could have scored more.

Some great performances all through the team... Let's hope Wharton is saving his first goal for the final!

We're on our way!

And unlike the ref in the away leg he ignored their play acting early on. It quickly dawned on them that they weren't gonna get away with it and so we didn't see a repeat of some of their pathetic antics that we saw in poland.

With a prem ref neither of our goals would've stood. They'd give a foul against pino straight away for munoz's goal. And on sarr's after kamada got bundled over they would've stopped play and brought it back to the halfway line for the first foul on mitchell.

my mate said that last night's ref has done champs lge final and you can see why!!

He was a bit like a rugby referee when advantage is allowed to play out to see if any benefit actually results and if not go back and award the foul. Also by not showering cards around players weren't on tenterhooks and afraid to commit. A really top job all round.
