Crystal Palace vs. Newcastle match thread

Lacking character, heart and experience in the team, I wonder why Hughes is getting no chance at all.
I'm not suggesting he's a long term answer, but he does play with grit, reads the game well and does not give up in adversity.

Goals : 9 for, 19 against. 19! This after only 8 games. Relegation material, we know it, the players know it, Sage knows it, Parish knows it. Parish is the one with the ultimate power to make the change necessary, and with us in 17th I don't think Sage will be here much longer.

I feel sorry for Sage, he has been sold down the river by Parish and Hobbs but unfortunately he has to go, he will be unable to get anything out of this useless bunch of so called players.
We need to go back to an old school manager to keep us up playing route one football.

It was good whilst it lasted but Glasner was right.
Yet others on here - still defend Parish.

I’ve said so many times - yes he’s our greatest ever Chairman - but he’s dealings in the transfer market is awful.

Sage will carry the can for this - but Parish has a lot to answer for.

Now he’s got to rectify it - we’re now 4th from bottom - he’s got to appoint a Manager that can sort this out - and get him out of the mess he’s largely responsible for..!!

Whether sacking Sage happens sometime between now and the break or not, the blame for our slump has to be laid at the feet of our board.

They have left the squad wafer thin by selling our best players when we have a long spell of 2 game weeks and also hired a man who has made some ridiculous and costly signings. To make matters worse, we have had a string of injuries.

Sage will likely be the victim because sacking him is all that can be done, aside from signing some quality in January. The problem is that signing quality when you are at the bottom is next to impossible and Matt Hobbs doesn't seem to have a clue in any case.

Don't forget Sage also said it's up to the chairman whether he stays or not. Showed no committment or dedication in turning things round. He doesn't seem to give a toss and will be rewarded with millions when given the boot anyways. What a world.

The post Freeman fall out.

You still need the players and we don't have a good enough defence whether it's back 4 or 3/5.
We would be so much better with a sensible system though. The few times we’ve played more compact and with the wing backs dropped a bit deeper we’ve done ok defensively. We kept our only clean sheet in the league doing this. I don’t think any of them are going to set the world on fire but I think we could be reasonably solid with the right tactics.

I hope the few quid we got for letting players go and not getting quality replacements in was worth it. 18 months ago look at the team we had. This current team with the way its set up will struggle in the championship.

At least we have the excuse of having f*** all money. Look at the state of united.

Sack Sage by all means but the problems will remain, Parish has to be responsible for where we are, he has consistently failed in the transfer market and the succession planning of player contracts. We will be relegated this year whatever happens with Sage and then the problem is who now wants to take on team that is doomed, nobody in their right mind would want that job if they care about their reputation and for all those who want Paddy to takeover just remember he is supposed to the defence coach, which is of course the worst defence in the league who conceding on average 2+ goals per game. As for the forwards they can't score and if they have in the past, they now just want away now and don't want to play!

Did we look solid because we were or just because Newcastle were awful in the first half?
I have no sympathy for him as he’s had many reality checks and today was a day maybe to change things but he’s got to go. His football hasn’t worked and we’re giving away goals Willy nilly
We have no direction and I’ve had enough of seeing us play a back 3 for a lifetime 😂
Yeah, difficult to know. There were at least not the huge gaps everywhere that we've seen in other games.

Doesn't really matter if they walk through the smaller gaps to score, though, I suppose.

It’s the only world where you get rewarded fabulously by abject failure.

Now Parish who didn’t invest sufficiently on our defence is faced by paying off Sage and employing a new Manager.

It’s strategically insane.

Roy, after checking the day's football scores, is happily toasting marshmallows by the fireplace.
"This is the life!" says Roy to himself.
The phone rings.
"Who could that be?" wonders Roy. "Can't be that chump Steve Parish again surely?"

To be continued... Da da da!

Don’t you think the fact we can’t defend or attack well might be due to the manager. This squad isn’t great but it isn’t worse than Hull, Ipswich, Sunderland, Fulham or Coventry for example. A competent manager would have more points than Sage and can still keep us up.
