Defence didn't look cohesive at all you're right, but there were some bright sparks. Decent game from Tomiyasu, Khalaili looked good at times and we moved the ball forward fairly well in the first half.

Lots to do for sure but there is time to turn it around and time to bring a couple more players in... Squad barely had a pre season due to so many at the world cup. Any team has to be on top of their game to beat Man City.
 
I don't know why so many think that bringing in a few extra players is going to be the answer to all our problems. On the contrary, it'll be a few more loans or frees that Parish tends to favour when he doesn't want to spend and which add little to the overall picture.

Obvious since the Como Cup warm up games that Sage is still figuring out his best starting 11 = not easy with players leaving, gossip, supposed injuries, and new faces learning their respective roles. It's not Sage's fault, his task is difficult enough as it is, knocking a rag-tag disparate squad into a competitive force in the space of a month.

Surely most managers can send a team out to keep it tight and be cohesive.
 
I think Chris had his worst game tonight. He was off the pace and looked sluggish and gave the ball away far too easily.

I think we looked more organised at the back when Disasi came on and Khalili looked very good.

The midfield ran out of steam (understandably given their work rate) The frontline were toothless and that is a big worry.

I think we really need to get busy before the window closes.
 
A fit and in form Doucoure playing in a midfield 3 with Wharton and Kamada wouldn’t go amiss.

I think that would’ve solved a lot of problems both tonight and last week so I just hope the man is back and playing sometime in the next few months!

Richards never looks good in middle of a back 3.

I hope so too but i think we're sticking with the 2 in midfield.
 
Khalaili looks a better full back defensively than Munoz but not as good going forward. If he and Mitchell are our starting backs this season we’re not going to create much out wide. Our centre backs will take time to get used to playing together and it will be easier with 2 than 3.

Maybe we’ve been more competitive for longer in our last two games against City at Selhurst but the 3 goal deficit has been the same, even when we had our best ever manager and a team that also beat them in the cup final, when a Chris Richard had the game of his life, which he emphatically did not tonight.
 
Man City were good, very good and no shame to losing to them.

However, we didn't do ourselves any favours as were not very well drilled and the defense looked very weak. Can't rely on that back 3 all season, crying out for another quality leader like Lacroix in the centre.
 
Wharton was immense first half, truly world class player and all our creativity comes from his passing. If he does go, we are in big big trouble
 
Probably just as well we played Everton and City first. We have a combined run of 20 league games against them without a victory. But, obviously, we need points against Fulham and Hull or Sage will be living dangerously. Dyche would be the obvious choice. If we did as well under him as Forest did last year we would get to 44 points
Doucoure played for U-21 and got MOM (7 votes!) so a 4-3-3 with him might be worth a shout. Franca did not feature but may be too old or they are lining up a loan
If Larsen isn't up to it, I'm not sure where we turn. Maybe Sarr, if fit and available could play centrally or JPM when he gets back and if he is prepared to knuckle down until January. The U21 striker is already 21

I was going to say, all the more reason for going 4-3-3. Wharton would benefit with a Hughes type player next to him.
