Crystal Palace vs Man Utd match thread

I was 'Spitting feathers' on account of our dire second half performance and commented on HOL just before I intended to raise my rump from my seat and head to the exit door with great rapidity.
With my emotions now in control, and on reflection, I appreciate that rigours of all the games this season are taking their toll and I understand Glasner has expressed comments about the lack of investment in the summer.
The drop-off in performance in the second period from the first half was palpable and of course we lost against Strasbourg to two second-half goals.
Once again Mateta was less than impressive in front of goal, not hitting the target when well placed and it appears that Nketiah is not suited to the No 10 role.
No thrust at all from Mitchell and Munoz and the wing-backs are important in the Glasner system.
Once again Pino was disappointing.
There will be alarm bells ringing if we lose at Burnley.

At the end of the day lack of players doesnt stop us missing 2 open goals on Thursday, or today kamada not tracking zirkzee then our keeper not saving the shot, or between them not work out how to construct a wall, or blooming nketiah cant pass to a team mate when its 2 on 1.
I think our esteemed manager needs to grow some cohones and deal with it, it does start at the top, all this negativity will filter down to the players. He picks the team, so Esse & Uche dont do what he wants them to do, so drop them but that wont happen.
If he wants to leave then bye bye it was fun when it lasted...managers come and go

Managers do come and go but when you find a great one as we have, you would hope the board would do their best to keep him happy, everything his asked for and his not made crazy demands, they've done the opposite.

Didn't we sign Wharton and Munoz in a January window, both at bargain prices. Why would the club broadcast any targets? Who have we ever loaned in January in the last 7 years?
They were both signed in the January 'Window', I believe Munoz at the start and Wharton at the end.
I am of the opinion that in the last 3 January 'Windows' we only signed 2 players in each but this might be a tad inaccurate.

Roy is anticipating a slightly late Christmas present

I have not perused his interview, however from what I have heard his articulation left no one in doubt that he was not impressed with transfer activity in the summer 'Window' given the fixture schedule with all the European matches.

In my view, Glasner needs to pull his head in a bit. You do not hang your chairman out to dry like that.
He knows the Palace model. He knows what we can/can't spend. And his stubborn refusal to use his squad is what's causing this downturn in form.

No one knew who he was before Palace...so a bit of humility and grace would be recommended right now.

"Bigger" clubs will be watching and thinking can we work with a manager who openly calls out the board regularly? If they don't get their way. I know other managers have done the same but have quickly got over themselves and not carried it through the season.

I note the observation about Nketiah as he is likely to be pressed into that No 10 role in the absence of Sarr.
Furthermore, against Burnley I don’t anticipate Pino getting much change out of a physically dominant Walker.
We may have to rely on keeping a clean sheet and nicking a goal from a set piece.

Agreed. A disappointing interview and one that signals his intention to leave in the summer. I can’t see Parish spending big in January for a manager who isn’t planning on staying and I can’t see Glasner signing a new contract unless Parish spends big. We have an impasse.
H has history in this regard and that is his Achilles heel as a manager along with his reluctance to use the depth of his squad unless forced to do so.
Whatever happens in January does not just send a message to Glasner but also his potential successor, it is very short sighted not to back OG.

You may not have, but more informed people would have done. Like those who are aware of Europa Cup winning managers of the 2020's. He might have hoped that Palace were in the best ever position to push on but Parish/Textor faffing around with UEFA and failure to replace Freedman permenantly until October has cost us

What’s been disappointing is the lack of fight this half. We’ve shown absolutely zilch since going behind. Just look like we know we are beaten. Been a soft display second half
Our fans too have been surprisingly quiet except the ultras who always beat the drum.

Nketiah was not impressive in the No 10 role.
I actually thought it might have been more advantageous moving Kamada up to play that role and introducing Hughes to play in his place but then considered that he might have still been feeling the effects of his knock the other night.

Reflecting on another disappointing, avoidable loss I think Eddie Nketiah should be mulling over his contribution in a palace shirt to date.

For our outlay and his perceived abilities he should be putting more pressure on JP and chipping in with more goals and assists.

He was awful against Strasbourg after coming on and just as ineffective today. We’ve been guilty of missing chances but that 2 vs. 1 at the end of the first half was criminal for a premier league striker.

It’s looking like £25mil spaffed up the wall currently.

I mean he could have easily played the likes of Deveney, Uche, Nketiah, Hughes, Esse. No they aren’t the same quality as our best 11 but right now playing the same players all the time is just killing us. We are playing worse each week and aren’t getting the results in either competition. If we are going to be sub par at least give players a rest

Other than esse they all came on today!
And look at the outcome. Confirms all the posts. Our quality squad is about 16 players

Why is he a great one, i understand we won the cup, with the best squad we ever had, and finished 12th, i am not saying he is a bad manager, he is decent, Pardew was 12mins from winning the cup, and finished 10th, is he a great manager, it is as its blasphemy to say that IMO he isn't Great

3 5 2 ?

Understandable reaction when he is beaten by a club outside Europe that had a net spend of over 150 million in the summer, whilst Palace made a net profit, but he should probably hae kept his own counsel. Could be a lot worse in a week's time
