I do wish we would mix it up a bit and hoof out from the back. Surely JSL is capable of winning the header and glancing back to our marauding samurai Kamada who is well capable of holding it up. Not every time but just a variation on slow build which seemed to break down before we got anywhere near the Polish half.

Cold fact of the matter is it is difficult to measure the progress made in the overall scheme of things. Boro and Poznan not quite Premiership quality yet in the Premiership we have 3 points from 12 and lose against Leeds and that's 3 from 15 - relegation material.
We can only wait and see how the performance against Leeds turns out. last season we were extremely poor in league games directly after Euro competition. We'll see if Sage can shuffle his pack.

Yep. Did the job well on Thursday and the confidence from that can only help. We’ve yet to turn in a convincing, let alone good, performance in the league so let’s hope it starts on Sunday.

This is the big concern, the average statically speaking says EPL teams competing in Europa League lose -2.6 EPL placings due to the extra games, this means that last years 15 place finish places us far too close to 18 position this season if these statistics prove correct and with our weak squad it could be far worse. Lets hope its not but a loss tomorrow at Leeds as this will not help us in the battle that is to come!

without Eze, Guehi, LaCroix and Munoz and with Sarr being a bit flaky and not knowing what we’re going to get now, Mateta floundering when he plays, I’d say our first choice team is without doubt weaker, and although we’ve got more players because of all the new signings, we’ve just got more average players to call on than we’ve had before

It's too early IMO to determine that all our new players are only average. Most will need time to gel both in terms of the club and the League. Just remember what many said about Mateta, Sarr and Lacroix in their early days. I'm more inclined to wait until at least Christmas before making any judgement. Look at how Lacroix is taking time to settle at Chelsea.

It's too early IMO to determine that all our new players are only average. Most will need time to gel both in terms of the club and the League. Just remember what many said about Mateta, Sarr and Lacroix in their early days. I'm more inclined to wait until at least Christmas before making any judgement. Look at how Lacroix is taking time to settle at Chelsea.

If they take as long to find form as Mateta did. We could easily be relegated and then promoted again, before they do.

i don't think any of them are down at that level yet. They'll all need some decent minutes before we can begin to judge. TBF to Mateta, he never got decent minutes until Edouard got injured.

4-0 was top result but let’s face if Poznan had free players around our box - defending was not great again by any means just so happens their shooting was crap

As I’ve said before the high press has rarely worked in the Premier League and is arguably the most difficult system to implement. I can only think of Liverpool who have used it really successfully and that took multiple seasons to get right. As soon as a couple of player dropped their levels they found it problematic to play. We are not that Liverpool team.

I don’t mind more pressing but for a rebuilding team in an unforgiving league we need to be more pragmatic. If it takes 13 games to get right we will be in deep relegation trouble.

Bit harsh. I think Kalaili could easily equal Munoz in terms of effecting a game. Timber is the enforcer we have missed since Jedi left. I also really like Mingueza as a very capable squad option. Pino is 100% going to be a big player for us now he has settled down (the impatient Palace fans that were slagging him off last year will become very quiet), and Strand-Larson is now starting to show form and confidence.
Much better squad, team at the moment the jury is out but I'm optimistic

You may well be right, I’m just calling it how I see it now, I’d say you’ve definitely picked out the best of our signings there, as for the rest, I suppose it’s too early to judge fully until they’ve had more game time

Well there is only one way that he can prove that and that is through results. There has been many a manager who thought their tactics were right for the Premier League only to find they weren’t.
