So let me get this straight.
Crista Pike was convicted of murder 20 years ago and given the death penalty. She spent the 20 years on death row in a Nashville prison. Her execution took place yesterday by lethal injection, however they attempted twice and failed. So she was rushed to hospital to end up in a critical condition.
So bottem line is having tried to kill her they then try to make her well enough so they can try a killer again.
The rights and wrongs of capital punishment is devisive subject but to treat a human being in this way is barbaric.

Yes its a right conundrum this story. She may still die in which case the citizens of that 'fine' country may conclude job done. If she survives I really can't see how they can try again. They will just have to commute to life in prison - surely. I'm sure El Presidento will have a view.
Not being pedantic but I think it's over 20 years which in itself begs a question, but societies attitudes have changed in that time. We are more receptive to 'excuses' in this case the alleged abuse Pike suffered. That seems to be headlined more than the horrific crime she committed which an average child would know is wrong. Sympathy to the original victims family really but a mess.

I stumbled across this from Cornell Law School yesterday, she undoubtedly suffered an awful upbringing...

It certainly paints her as an innocent looking victim of her own undiagnosed mental health. What the article fails to mention, is that her and a boyfriend lured their poor victim into the woods and tortured her to death. Pike slit her stomach and throat with a box cutter, smashed her head in with a rock, kept part of her skull as a memento and carved a pentagram onto her chest. She later bragged about it to others.

I'd say that was pretty barbaric?

You either have a death penalty or you don't. People who commit serious crimes always have a sob story.

I can understand people being against capital punishment (I think I am) because the alternative is judging the criminal. This women know doubt comes across as sympathetic due to her mental issues and upbringing much like the lady who killed her 3 kids.

The problem now is that capital punishment then becomes a popularity contest, this one deserves it because they don't have a sob story (or one you don't like) this one should not be executed because she is photogenic and had a hard life etc.

So if you are going to have capital punishment it should be an absolute, commit this crime and you will die regardless of your sob story.

What the Americans have at the moment is a mess.

Sentenced in 1996 = 30 years. How can someone be kept on death row fo 30 years!
In most countries -if not a risk to others - she would be out on parole!
The US criminal justice system must be amongst the most inhuman, primitive in the world !

I'd say brutally murdering a young woman.....who never gets to see a day again.....I'd say that's far more inhuman than locking her murderer up for thirty years and then injecting her.

Even that doesn't give true justice.....because that justice scale can never be put back.

So personally I have zero sympathy.......She lost that the day she ended an innocent's life.
