CPFC Retained/Released List

I see Luke Plange got the chop. Wasn't his transfer to Palace the one Rooney got antsy about because he thought we just came in and plundered Derby's players for stupidly low money when they had some financial difficulties?

The academy list is very interesting. Looked for Derry but not quite sure what "offer has been made" means. Does that mean we've offered a contract, or that someone has made an offer for them? I'm presuming it means we offered a contract.
I instantly looked for Derry too. You'd think he'd want to be on the fringes of the first team to stay given some interest from some jumpers for goalposts Scottish team that are trying to lure him with first team football. Can't remember if it was Celtic or Rangers. Same difference.

There are a couple of players Holding and Ebiowei I thought we would let go. My guess is that we are hoping some one comes in for them or that we will be offering them a deal to cancel their contracts.

Jadan Raymond and JWM are the two others that stand out on the released list. Both were hyped a couple of years ago with major European clubs supposedly interested in Raymond. Both will now probably struggle to find EFL clubs willing to take them on, such is the ruthlessness of football. It's a shame about Luke Plange. I remember he scored a hat-trick in his first preseason with us and looked quite lively, but then never really got much of a look in and got shipped out to nowhere leagues. He'll probably get a deal somewhere with his experience.

I remember watching an academy match a few years ago and JWM was looking promising as an attacking midfielder. Then I heard he was on loan this year to a lower league team. Then I heard he wasn't getting game time.

A pity. But this is a ruthless sport. I wish him well though.

Football is littered with players who have been released by other clubs only to come good a couple of years later . Eze's much publicised story during cup final week should be an inspiration to all those who need to find another club .We can't keep them all and have to make room for the next generation of possibles .

Good luck to all .

I often think that young players exist that might under perform at youth level or on loan to a lower league club but thrust into top flight football (obviously a huge gamble) would thrive.

We'll never know...

Don't get me wrong, I suspect by and large the experts associated with football get it right, but I bet a handful of players miss their 'sliding doors' moment.
