computer games that drain your life

You're on the train, too tired to read, too tired to think, but not tired enough to sleep, you reach for your phone and play a moronic game, or whilst prone on your bed with your lap top, that internet pain killer. I used to do solitaire, free cell, hearts, moved onto back gammon, then bridge, now I do an online risk game called warzone, or try to avoid being eaten by purple crocodiles while surfing. You sort of enjoy them but realise you are throwing life's valuable time down the toilet. So what's yours?

Football Manager, seconded.

I have spent 16 seasons managing Loxwood from about Tier 9. Got them into the Premier League (I know I sound like Jay from Inbetweeners) and the Europa League (I won the fairplay league which still existed in this game!). I got relegated in my first season in the Prem, came straight back up as Championship winners and am now on a season where I am in the relegation zone of the Prem again. Likely to get fired though, so I stopped playing!

My assistant manager is Anthony Gardner, my goalkeeping coach is Wayne Hennessey. I have a whole bunch of other ex Palace players in my coaching team too but can't remember who.

I salute your commitment.

Championship Manager 01/02 specifically was an incredible game and I must have lost months to it.

Age of Empires is something you could lose a few hours on if you had a laptop and was on a trip somewhere.

Broken Sword was a third.

I do not think you are allowed to say so these days because it has probably been cancelled but the version of Civilization called Colonization was incredibly addictive as well.

After that consoles came along and Tomb Raider, Grand Theft Auto, Assassin's Creed, and latterly Red Dead Redemption took over.

Age of Empires is a good shout.

I just realised you'd highlighted the bit about Wayne Hennessey. I was going to say Neil Shipperley is my fitness coach but that's probably just a joke.

To be fair, Anthony Gardner isn't the best assistant manager, he's been with me since my third season though and because I play FM19 with a back story in my head, he's just this guy that will always work with me. Hennessey isn't the best goalkeeping coach either but he's one of several.

We probably need a separate thread for grown men talking about Football Manager/Championship Manager as though it's real life.

I remember on Championship Manager my best Palace players were Carlisle, Rubins and a youngster called Andrew Martin. In real life my local non-league team signed Andrew Martin and I said to my Dad "watch this guy, he scores for fun". He was a total donkey but I kept saying "any moment now he'll be on fire". After three games he was released by the club. It was then that I realised Championship Manager was just fantasy.

Not so, the quintuple? prem, champs league, both cups and charity shield yes?
I lost the Charity Shield on penalties but won the Super Cup. Crystal Palace have won back to back Champions Leagues and two of the last three Premier Leagues. Finishing second in the other one.
I use Ollie's system and it seems a hack on FM 26. Of our team, Pino turns into a beast. Hopefully happens in real life.
