Como Cup

I was in Como yesterday and watched both ‘matches’ I was particularly interested in Doucoure, wanted to see how he’d recovered etc and also had a good look at JRS. I’m not sure the latter touched the ball at all, he looked miles away from being any use and hopefully he’ll be out the door soon (Charlton ?).

Cheick was also off the pace, but did get a few touches and made some half decent interceptions. I’m really concerned that he’ll regain full fitness though. I also wondered whether we felt we’d moved on from CD because we have a few decent MF/combinations since he was injured ?

I need also to mention Will Hughes. He was terrible. Had the touch of a giant panda wearing wellingtons ! 🫣😱
He struggled to cope with the tempo of the game. Yes, I know it's early pre-season but he was noticeable for being so much slower than others around him.

What really grinds .years is that this was sold as a big thing, a competition to attend or subscribe to watch.

People will have paid good money to travel and watch and we put out a team.of kids second string players and a smattering of first team.

Ever feel you have been ripped off (again,)
People paid to watch and travel to the Macclesfield and Strasbourg fixtures 😅

Would much rather attend a festival on Lake Como with concerts and all sorts of faire surrounding, and catch a couple of 45 minute kick abouts with our lad's involved.... than travel to the Moss Rose in the backend of Lancashire to watch our 150 million pound main-team get schooled by plumbers and brickies.

As I said on another thread, with 12 players away at the \World Cup it was obvious we wouldn't see the bulk of our 1st XI until Fulham at the earliest. We might see two or three more on Friday.
Ironically a lot of those involved in the Lens game were basically in and around the first team anyway.

Yet we got better out of the full youth team against Famalicao.

JRS is such a dilemma. Clearly a decent player in there but woeful body language.
I remember a couple of years ago in a pre season friendly v Crawley ( i think it was the 6-3) he scored 2 great goals and looked up for it.
He got his loan to Sheff Utd soon after with loads of championship club interested.

Now he's had 2 average championship loans and is clearly miles away from our 1st team. With 1 year left of his contract he really needs to move on. I think he is championship standard and at his age should command a similar fee to Imray.

It could and should have been so much more though.
He should have been thrown in at the deep end years back. It would have done wonders for him. The opportunity was missed and he's stagnated. I am getting the feeling his heart isn't quite in it anymore too.

I would be happy to be pleased wrong, but I do agree we should sell ASAP and hopefully get a few mil.

Some Saudi second division clubs have better budgets than Premier League teams. I don't know if Al-Ula are one of those, but they certainly have money on hand.

They had a long history of very low level football, essentially non-league. In 2023 they were bought by the city's Royal Commission. Since then they have had consecutive promotions in the 2023-24 and 2024-25 seasons.

They were paying £2.5m per annum to striker Allan Souza back in the Fourth Division of Saudi football.

Their current star player is Serbian centre-back Matija Nastasič, formerly of Fiorentina, Man City, and Schalke. He won't be featuring against us as he is carrying an ACL injury expected to be up until mid-November.

Ok 👌 know how that it isn’t important but can somebody info m me why we were placed bottom in the group even we won the second game albeit via penalties

Goal difference let us down from taking Famalicao's spot. I've formatted it all below hopefully it will make sense.

*Top two teams proceed to Main Final.
*Middle two teams proceed to 3rd/4th-Place Final.

Oh the excitement! Have we ever featured in a 5th place play off before? Am I the only one who thinks this 45 mins per game in a rather silly competition is all a big waste of time? How much did we get for being in it?
It's basically the only look Pierre has had so far at anyone who belongs to CPFC Limited.

Well, and the Ciasso training camp, which is a part of it.

We will have got good financial benefits from it, it also increases the profile of the club, and it's important for those players who have been involved in getting them ready for the season ahead.

From the club's point of view it makes every bit of sense. It might not be the most thrilling for fans, but neither would a trip to Dulwich Hamlet be. It's pre-season.

Como supporter here ! Thanks for the acceptance into your group! Firstly, compliments on a super ultra movement (best in the UK) and also on the fantastic football your team plays. It's a shame we didn't meet each other in the Como Cup this season.
I hope Palace have a successful season and who knows maybe we can meet again. I'll be following Crystal Palace this season. Thank you and Forza Palace 🔵💙❤️
