Como Cup

I was at Selhurst watching Wimbledon vs Aston Villa once, I know that doesn't make sense. The Wimbledon fans booed Vinnie Jones when he came on. That's how popular he was.

Apart from being absolutely crap.
Intimidation was all he had really, it worked back then, he wouldn’t last five minutes on the pitch now. It’s a shame, because I’d love to see someone like him kick some of the arrogant twats around now into next week. They get far too much protection now, it saps the intensity out of games

I remember watching us playing Wimbledon at Plough Lane when we were both physical teams in approach.
Jones committed a terrible foul on Geoff Thomas with no intent to play the ball.
Observing the scene and forecasting that the foul was about to take place John Pemberton almost simultaneously violently tackled Jones.
As I recall there was no yellow card or reaction from the players concerned.
You couldn't help but wince watching it at close quarters.

We seem to have gone from outright thuggery on the field to a no contact sport.
Surely there's still place for a perfectly executed slide tackle or robust 50/50?

We were probably the only team who could stand up to the old crazy gang, it helped we signed two of them in Thorny and Ninja, but GT, Andy Gray and Brighty could hold their own.
As Vinnie Jones said, he knew he wasn’t exactly the best footballer in the world, but he knew the best players in the world wouldn’t have wanted to play against him. I’ve got to admit I secretly would’ve loved him in our team at that time
