Christantus Uche

From the limited bits I’ve seen of him, he’s looked pony.
But then so did JPM for a year or so.
They won’t all turn the corner and be real good players, Glasner must have seen something in JPM in training , that he’s not seeing in Uche.

Was either Esse or Uche a transfer decision made or influenced by Glasner?

You would hope that he has let the club know what type of, or even which players he wants in the January window. Whether we get them or not is a different matter.
That’s what I mean something has gone wrong somewhere, if Glasner isn’t involved those signings (at least in the immediate term) were a waste of money.

You only have to look at the so called top players man U , Liverpool and Chelsea have paid huge sums for in recent years to realise some of them just can't play at or take time to adjust to the pace of the PL

We have had a few ,less expensive versions ourselves but the scenario is the same , you just don't really know 100% until they walk through the door

The signs aren’t positive for Uche.

I can’t recall Glasner speaking in positive terms about him at all, unlike other players when they are not selected.
For example , Glasner has acclaimed Nketiah for ‘working so hard in training’ and suggested he’s unlucky for not getting more game time.
He’s said , when Lerma and Hughes haven’t been selected, that both ‘deserve to play,’ and acclaimed their value to the team.

There is another side to Glasner though when players don’t fit in - we’ve seen it with JRS, Ahamada, Holding and to a lesser extent Edouard.

It brings to mind a story about Hodgson (when at Watford, not Palace).
A player who wasn’t being used asked to see Hodgson and demanded to be given an opportunity.
Apparently Hodgson just looked up from his desk and said, ‘Shut the door on your way out .’

The fact that Sarr still ends up playing 90+ mins against Wolves tells us everything we need to know. Cant see a world where he doesn't return in Jan.

Unfortunately its not worked, but is a real shame, highlights rom La Liga showed that he definitely could play a bit.

That can explain a lot of our cases, but not all.
Holding already had Premier League experience with Arsenal, but still ended up being frozen out.

Obviously some won't be as good as others, but it often feels personal and doesn't explain why they don't even start in League Cup games, etc

I'm still hoping he has a kind of Mateta metamorphosis. But as others have said if appearances trigger the clause then minutes may be hard to come by for him. I guess we'll find out soon enough when January rolls around.

Holding was a panic buy at the end of the transfer window if I remember right as we were light on cover at CB . He was never going to get a game unless we had a bad run of injuries and an outbreak of corona virus at the same time
Uche is a similar scenario ,a player the manager didn't want but cover we needed .He is lucky he is getting a seat on the bench

It is telling that the five subs used yesterday were all players that Glasner has praised and said will get more minutes. However, in Uche`s favour four of those replaced had been on international duty and the other has been nursing an injury.

I think that is very harsh in terms of known ability with regard to Holding. I have a few mates who are Arsenal fans who thought he would do a decent job for us and that he had performed well on occasion for the Gooners.

I think the pattern is more established that there are players that our manager does not like/does not have a good relationship with and simply will not play them.

I have no problem with that, he’s the manager and makes the decisions.

/don’t adapt to fit in our system - which I feel is particularly important under Glasner. I think he has very high standards and specific expectations, not all meet them.

Everything points towards a need to be a team player, first and foremost. Glasner is always hammering home it is about the team, not the individual, even on Saturday talking about the players involved in the build-up to Pino's goal and not just praising his finish. I think Holding's unceremonious demotion to the U21s reflects that after he refused to join the team in a warm down. It's maybe also why a maverick like Esse has struggled to work his way into Glasner's favour. Pino came in, showed he would run his socks off from day one, and so was an instant pick. We haven't really heard anything from Glasner about Uche, so it is not clear why he's not getting any minutes. There were rumours he came back late from the previous international break, but I never saw anything concrete on that.
