Christantus Uche

Interesting. Glasner sees him playing as a No 10. I was hoping he would be back up to JPM but apparently not. Still OG knows what he's doing.

From what I've seen of him is that he's a disruptor of defences. He's physically strong with good ball control and thus takes up more defensive attention like Zaha did, which gives more space for others.

I think he's a very intelligent buy.

The guy is a beast, legs like tree trunks. Strong, direct and pretty quick.

He will become our version of Antonio, which wouldn’t be a bad thing. Good signing I reckon.

thought it was a bit ott the way he war writing around on the floor in the penalty area. I thought he'd swallowed his tongue or was dying or something the way he was contorting his body in a fit-like manner. Other than that, looked positive and like he was trying to make things happen. If him and Pino can improve a bit and 'click' we might find our attacking rhythm which is lacking a Bolasia, Zaha, Olise, Eze bit of magic at the moment. Doesn't bode well for Esse - he must be terrible not to be getting any minutes given our current injuries.

Depending on how he performs in training, Esse will get opportunities as we have a minimum of 48 matches this season including some against minnows in the ECL. The club cannot afford to lose money by not playing him then trying to sell him off.

Hopefully its just a case of Esse proving to Glasner that he understands and respects the system. You'd hope Glasner plays him tomorrow night, and makes it very clear with what he expects of him.

Does anyone know the full information on this transfer? Some people are stating we have bought him. Some are stating its only a loan, and some are saying loan with obligation to buy at the end of the season. Also has anyone seen him live and have a review of his standard? I've only seen YouTube videos of his gameplay..
Its a season long loan but with an obligation to buy at the end of that loan. The transfer fee (already agreed) will be £17.3m. Personally I dont understand why (if we agreed to an obligation to buy) we dont just buy him now. Maybe cashflow. Maybe looks better on the balance sheet if we can shunt him on to next seasons figures. Who knows. All I do know is we cannot send him back to Getafe. He's ours on loan then we have to buy him.
I'm not upset by that at all. He looks a good signing.

We dont know what his attitude on the training ground is like though. It may not all be about failing to adhere to instructions.
Glasner's own words more than once when interviewed 'I can forgive most things but the team always must come first. This is the one thing I cannot forgive'

He was speaking generally about his philosophy on coaching but lets say Esse has been a bit of a brat hypothetically? I cannot imagine he'll get many opportunities under Glasner if so.

I did see one person suggesting that Getafe were close to being profitable for the year which would mean they would have to pay tax, so it is better for them to have this year as a loan and the transfer money come in next year. Not sure how accurate that is but it does make sense. I think its either that or a cashflow issue possibly with the Guehi money being meant for this transfer but not coming in, or a different player sale like Rak-Sakyi not going through.

Good point. Probably suited both clubs to hold off paying the money till the summer

FFS. I think there's a player there

Not been given a chance to show what he can do. With the sheer volume of games approaching, surely he will be given a bit of a run. I hope he gets a chance to prove himself. We’ve paid a £3m loan fee so it would be good to get at least a goal for that!!!!!

Glasner indicated that Uche had joined expecting to play.
Glasner's retort was that he joined on the last day of the window without a pre season and how could he change a side on a long unbeaten run?
All sounds reasonable from Glasner.

What's more telling, however, is that Glasner has given Uche very limited minutes when there has been an opportunity to use him.
Furthermore, Glasner has again indicated that he expects the club to strengthen in the forward positions in January indicating he's not content with his current options - particularly taking into account Sarr's absence during Afcon.

If the club don't back him in January, Glasner would be perfectly entitled to think that the club is not serious about matching his ambition.
He's not asking for the earth, just a situation where he doesn't have to stick Devenny or Kamada in the front 3.

To be fair the club have signed two young players in the last three windows who play in the front three but, for whatever reason, they aren’t being picked. Something has clearly gone wrong somewhere but whose to say a January signing would be any different?

Esse had limited experience at Championship level and was presumably bought for potential.
There was no track record to suggest he could hit the ground running.
Uche again is very inexperienced and only had just got his breakthrough at Getafe.

In the summer Glasner made it clear that he wanted players who could make an immediate first team impact.
Doesn't necessarily mean a first name on the teamsheet, but certainly one who would get plenty of game time with the heavy schedule.
We were linked with experienced options who could have fulfilled those roles (Hwang, Brooks, Salomon) but such move didn't materialise so we went for the cheap inexperienced option in Uche on the last day.

Was either Esse or Uche a transfer decision made or influenced by Glasner?

You would hope that he has let the club know what type of, or even which players he wants in the January window. Whether we get them or not is a different matter.
