Yes the correct procedure is to wait for VAR to clear the goal , then the referee to award it or not . If the ref awards the goal VAR cannot, well not supposed to get involved and the on field decision stands . Between todays decision the blatent handball against Liverpool and the penalty that shouldn't have stood because the Liverpools goalkeepers foot was not behind the line, all smells a bit of UEFA to me .

Sadly, that's not relevant because at the moment Eze struck the ball Guehi's momentum had taken both him and Caicedo into the wall hence Guehi was then less than one metre away from the wall.

Not sure what to make of that. It seems out of character for Marc that’s for sure. Perhaps he was upset by something else. Can’t read too much into it

Just watched the highlights back.

With a calmer head I’ve got no issue if the referee and VAR want to apply the rules to the strictest interpretation of the law regarding the Eze free kick

But if that’s the case they can’t let Sanchez punch Guehi in the back of the head and give nothing. There was no malice just clumsiness but you can’t just wave play on in that circumstance after what you’ve done previously.

Disappointing Edouard was given 10 minutes at the end, Mateta was dead on his feet.

I'm assuming a move is still on and they don't want to risk injury. Hopefully Mateta has enough in him to help us seal the tie on Thursday

Glasner does not seem to trust anyone other than the usual suspects. Esse would have been a better option than Devenney if they were trying to win the game. The latter is much better playing further back, driving forward and passing than receiving the ball higher up.
With all the matches coming up this could quickly catch up with us especially if we do not end with net incomings

Yes, but nobody had ever heard of this rule before. And even if they had when was it ever applied?
It may be that the FA have decided, for some bizarre reason, to crack down on this infringement this year but they also said they were going to crack down on grappling at corners and there's been plenty of that so far.

The rule had been in situ since the 2019-20 season and certainly Oliver Glasner and 'Yours Truly' had been aware of its existence.

I have already articulated why I believe it was enforced this afternoon. In the final analysis the law was applied correctly in relation to today's incident.

I have already articulated why I believe it was enforced this afternoon. In the final analysis the law was applied correctly in relation to today's incident.

But no one on here has ever seen it applied before. The commentators on Sky were confused about it and had the referee not explained it no one would have known why the goal was disallowed.
Balotelli was wrong. It's not always him. It's always us.
