Charlie Cresswell

Has been linked to us as Guéhi replacement. He has a number of clubs in for him, amongst which are Wolfsburg, Everton, Wet Spam, Stade Rennes, and us.

Personally have no idea as to his qualities, just hearing we have interest. Anybody know about him? Like him? Would we stand a good chance?

Ahh, I see. I did not know Mick Brown wasn’t to be trusted. There are other articles linking us to Charlie Cresswell, but none later than November.

Bet 365 have Charlie on a three-man shortlist to replace Guéhi, their other two picks being Osmande Diomande who we all know about and I would love to see, and Joel Ordonez of Club Brugge.

Like with Charlie, I know nothing about this particular Joel, although a Joel in our defence feels very natural.

Diomande is the one for me, but it would be difficult to pull it off.

On OP, Creswell seems more likely. England U21 and his stock (and value) has rocketed since he joined Toulouse.

He was a striker who held the ball up well, was full of running and was useful aerially.
He seemed to me that he lacked that extra burst of pace.

Surely the other way round - Toulouse don't want to sell him this window. Given our urgent need for a centre half, I can't see any way we'd be the ones trying to delay it to the summer.

I've watched him play a bit for the England U21s - he's a very 'modern' centre back that is good with the ball. He didn't have to do much defending in the games I saw, but certainly an impressive athlete and was a threat from set-pieces.

The sort of age and profile we like to sign... seems a decent fit.

He turns 24 this year so I'd hope not!

I'm really excited by Canvot as the young, developing back up for the future. I'd very much hope the signing we make now is very much for the first XI.

Agreed I think Canvot will make a great centre back given at little time and gained more experience. We just need a finished article now as a replacement for Guehi.
