Brighton vs Crystal Palace match thread

I wonder how sage would be getting on if he had Guehi and LaCroix at the back
Better of course because one is world class and one is very good. However, not that much better because so many of the goals are coming from the tactics and the back three being constantly exposed. That’s going to be difficult for any back three

Brighton are in form, Palace are not. The result is not unexpected. The first few goals were unusual (og, worldy, deflection) and made them look better and gave them confidence. Palace were poor. Missed some chances, they took theirs. The old xG thing only said 2-1. Means sod all but indicates 5-0 was flattering. Forget about it and move on. Sage has until December to prove himself. Teams change their managers too often. As long as we stay in Europe and dont drop into the bottom three he will be staying.
Messages I have just received from supporters do not believe he will last until December.

Hard to see Sage staying in the job now. We are by far the worst side in the Prem and somehow we are getting worse. I don't think we have the players to get us out of this. A prospective manager must look at our squad and think I could lose all my credibility working with this lot.
We all feel bad but seriuusly are we “by far the worst side in the Prem”? If only there were some kind of way to measure that objectively. Oh hold on….

Small consolation but we are not even close to being the worst!

They out played us , outrun us ,out pressed us , out muscled us , out wanted it more us .In fact they out every part of the game us .
He's lost the dressing room , you can see it in the body language of the players .
Parish won't pull the trigger yet but if nothing changes in next three or 4 games , he'll be gone during international break .

Nothing should turn on today's result or performance alone. It is, however, another addition to the growing body of evidence that Sage is the wrong man for us.

I imagine (hope) Parish puts his arm around Sage this evening, tells him to go home and put it out of his mind for today, but arranges a meeting with him for later in the week at which Sage will be asked to explain performances and his plan to improve them. That would be a sensible way to do things in most places of work.

I don't want Sage sacked. I've long believed that one reason Palace have stayed up this long is that we generally keep things in house and pull in the same direction. Becoming the kind of club that throws the manager under the bus is at odds with that stability. It does depend on what Sage says he plans to do, though. De Boer didn't answer that question to Parish satisfaction and we all know what happened next....
Mate the players ain’t playing for Sage..!!

There have been rumours of dressing room unrest - there’s no smoke without fire.

Today’s performance was an example of players that have no trust or faith in the manager - it’s as plain as the nose on your face.

Sage has got to go and go now..!!

But we are the worst defense and that is getting worse, not better. We conceded 23 goals in 7 league games. More than 3 a game! No manager can survive that sort of ineptitude for long especially when we can see a lot of it stems directly from his tactics

I’d like to think he’s asked him before now

This is the time of the first goal we’ve conceded.

  • Everton — 42nd minute
  • Manchester City — 17th minute
  • Fulham — 11th minute
  • Ipswich — 23rd minute
  • Nottingham Forest — 3rd minute
  • Lyon — 8th minute
  • Brighton — 4th minute
In all but one we’ve not made it to the half way point of the first half and in half we’re down by 11 minutes!

I’m sorry but the manner of the defeat proves my point.
If we wait till Christmas it will be too late.
He has to go and if the deed be done better it be done quick.
Paddy Mac as interim.
He is Palace through and through and maybe he will prove himself and keep the role.

Sensible post amongst those who resemble headless chickens. Parish isn't going to panic, not his style.

I would imagine, talks will take place, then a reassessment during the next International break in November.

One plus for me was Matetta actually fighting to be on the pitch, defensively and up front. Hopefully he starts next Thursday? Biggest disappointment player wise was Wharton. Yes, those around him were poor but his passing and ball control was as bad as any of our players and he is supposedly a top premiership player. If Sage survives after today then our next tow games will decide his fate in my opinion? Credit to Brighton for today and this season so far but we gave nothing today to make them get out of first gear. Yet another terrible performance by us :-(
Our worst performance of the season by far. Second to every ball, out thought, outfought and outplayed by, let's be honest, a very good Brighton team. I expected to be beaten but not in that way. I don't expect Sage to be sacked after this result unless the wheels fall off in the next couple of games, I expect him to see it through to the next international break.

I was pleased to see Mateta getting stuck in - pity he had his usual glaring miss when set up nicely. I agree re Wharton also. He was poor today trying to still do his usual stuff in a context where it wasn't going to work because virtually every Palace player on the pitch was having a 'mare. So many basic errors.

November is too late - this is only going to get worse.

Players simply not playing for Sage..!!

Got to happen now..!!

I blame the board for this predictable thrashing.

Selling Guehi, Lacroix and Muñoz within six months, what did they expect? And this happening when they knew that Mateta and Sarr were looking to leave.

If we had the same manager and coaching staff, we might have got away with it, but with a new regime and the loss of our best forwards and the goalkeeper captain, we were always going to nosedive.

We might improve up front with players returning, but our defence is the real problem. It is hopeless right now.
Sage will have lost friends with this result and I think he will have till the end of November to sort it out or he will be replaced before Christmas. The board won't sack themselves, so he will carry the can.

Does anyone think we would be in this mess if we still had Lacroix?
His generalship covered many of our shortcomings last season and we miss him greatly.

We need a leader and it's not Wharton (who had a paricularly poor game today)
Henderson is our supposed captain but we need a leader on the field and I see no candidates for this vital position.
One thing is for sure - we and the management need a rethink, and quickly!

mitchell and khalali (who is awful) are played so high up the pitch and timber is wandering around aimlessly in the attacking half meaning that if any team breaks against us it's just wharton and then the back 3 to get past!!

Couldn’t agree more.
He has lost the dressing room.
Frank De Sage has to go

You're treading on thin ice there mate saying Brighton and out in the same sentence.

the chopping and changing of the back three, rank bad defending and keep giving the ball away doesn’t help
