Brighton vs Crystal Palace match thread

Brighton are in form, Palace are not. The result is not unexpected. The first few goals were unusual (og, worldy, deflection) and made them look better and gave them confidence. Palace were poor. Missed some chances, they took theirs. The old xG thing only said 2-1. Means sod all but indicates 5-0 was flattering. Forget about it and move on. Sage has until December to prove himself. Teams change their managers too often. As long as we stay in Europe and dont drop into the bottom three he will be staying.

Sage is the manager. Get the best team with the players youve got available, its simple. 3 at the back doesnt work.
I'm not disagreing with you that under normal circumstances you be right but Sage did not sell our good defenders and then tried to replace them at the last minute with players out of contract, loanees and a few young lads who never played at this level. We have the weakest squad in the league our succession planning is non existence and we are hopeless these days with recruitment. Sage had no real pre-season to plan and since then the weakness of our squad has been proven with our injuries and no suitable quality replacements to call upon. This is important because playing on a Thursday and Sunday just does not work if you do not have the players to rotate. The real blames lies a lot higher up the tree than with Sage and that could be our downfall unless that is solved. You only have to look at today's opponents to see how much better they are with squad numbers and a proven workable recruitment system that can cope with selling quality players on at a profit and then being able to replace with at least equal quality at a good price!

The manner of this defeat was coming and it was just a matter of time. We've been unconvincing and most fortunate thus far into the campaign. It seems to me that Sage has only one way and I wonder if he will learn the valuable lesson that this thumping will have taught him - namely the tactics employed don't work with this set of players in the Premier league. There's a lack of leadership and structure across the board and it needs to be addressed immediately.
All be it was s*** performance.
But the Sky love in for Brighton, even leading up to the kick off and then during the commentary by them two tossers Bill Leslie and Matthew Upson was unbelievably biased.
I don't think Upson has forgiven Palace for beating them in the 2013 play off semi final.

We got away with it against Nottm Forest who simply never converted their chances.
We conceded 3 at Lyon and now 5 at Brighton.
I have reached the stage whereby I am expecting our team to concede a plethora of goals and Besiktas will be looking forward to playing us.
We look a total mess at the back, we are getting overrun in midfield and are totally disorganised across the pitch. We look a sorry sight.

Nothing should turn on today's result or performance alone. It is, however, another addition to the growing body of evidence that Sage is the wrong man for us.

I imagine (hope) Parish puts his arm around Sage this evening, tells him to go home and put it out of his mind for today, but arranges a meeting with him for later in the week at which Sage will be asked to explain performances and his plan to improve them. That would be a sensible way to do things in most places of work.

I don't want Sage sacked. I've long believed that one reason Palace have stayed up this long is that we generally keep things in house and pull in the same direction. Becoming the kind of club that throws the manager under the bus is at odds with that stability. It does depend on what Sage says he plans to do, though. De Boer didn't answer that question to Parish satisfaction and we all know what happened next....

We haven't played the same back five all season, there is no consistency as a result .Having said that can anyone tell me what Sage's gameplan is ? It just feels like hit it long and hope. Kamada and Wharton didn't turn into bad players just feels like they don't understand what they are supposed to be doing

Weve just lost to those c**ts 5-0, we cant defend for our lives. It's time for Sage to go (& ive supported him up until today), simply not good enough from day 1, I dont think theres any comeback from this. Also our recruitment jas been shocking. Brighton signed some great players...and got some good deals Mingueza looks similar to Sosa, Disasi shouldn't be anywhere near the XI & we probably missed him today, I could go on but I don't need to.

One plus for me was Matetta actually fighting to be on the pitch, defensively and up front. Hopefully he starts next Thursday? Biggest disappointment player wise was Wharton. Yes, those around him were poor but his passing and ball control was as bad as any of our players and he is supposedly a top premiership player. If Sage survives after today then our next two games will decide his fate in my opinion? Credit to Brighton for today and this season so far but we gave nothing today to make them get out of first gear. Yet another terrible performance by us :-(

This is a total embarrassment 5-0 against our biggest rivals.

It’s time to call it - Sage is not the Manager for us.

We have shown nothing - players from last season like Wharton, Mitchell, Canvot, Richards look a shadow of their former selves - they’ve gone backwards.

That can only be management, coaching and tactics - you don’t all become bad players over night.

It’s time to call it - enough is enough.

Sage out, Howe in.

I agreed with you until you mentioned Howe, no thanks.
