Brighton vs Crystal Palace match thread

My theory is that Parish saw the £££ with the Lacroix deal to balance the books and chanced his arm with a bunch of "filler". My other theory is that Hobbs is no substitute for Freedman.
Brighton sell all there best players but there recruitment is amazing really. Consider who they have lost. That is where Parish is losing out we have Hobbs who seems to know about as much about recruitment as I do which is f*** all.

If i were parish thats what I would be looking to sort out before January

Not a lot he can do - he picked Canvot and Khalaili on the same side with a loan who rarely gets a game on the other and the plodding Richards in the middle. Did anyone expect anything different? This defence is truly awful, probably the worst since we came back to the Premiership. A new manager would be faced with the same crap players.

Compare this with Roy Hodgson’s first spell. We had Scott Dann, James Tomkins and Damien Delaney in defence, with Joel Ward at right-back, (who) got absolutely hammered on here. I’d wager the players we have now are technically better, but what that side had was structure and a system.

I’m no massive fan of Roy’s attacking football, but he could organise a defensive line. When you’re conceding early goals as regularly as we are, surely the first priority is to make yourselves harder to play through. Keep the ball 50 yards from your goal and, as a general rule, they’re unlikely to score. Gomez today being the exception.

This is a system problem. The midfield is getting overrun, he’s done nothing to change it, and it keeps happening. When Plan A doesn’t work, the answer seems to be Plan A again.

I mentioned Russell Martin earlier, but Sage is starting to remind me of Field Marshal Haig in Blackadder: doing exactly what we’ve done the previous 17 times will presumably be the last thing they expect.

Forest and Brighton play different approaches, we went out with the same against each and look what happened.

Teams see us coming.

The problems don’t all start with the defence. They start in midfield too. The team is unbalanced, and persisting with the same setup is leaving players exposed to the same problems every week.

Wharton is not a captain ! Too much for him

His passes , crosses are so so bad each game now

The team do not look like a team, new players are not Prem players.

Our defense just seem lost & not confident

Midfield chasing shadows

Poor Sage I’m afraid will be gone by Thursday

But apart from that...

The thing is with all moaning aside. If professional footballers in the premier league are in capable of even stringing 3 passes together and insist on playing out from the back when they clearly do not have the skill to do it that is the real worry.
Brighton look like they have 2 extra players. We have nothing on the pitch at all.

This seems to have become a thing in recent years “system” managers. Perhaps they need to go back to remembering that the job is to find ways to win and draw. If that means changing formation, different tactics, changing players game by game then so be it. Managers like Sage (and many others) seem to think results are secondary to their “philosophy”. They aren’t

“Kudos for you to sticking to your philosophy, unfortunately, it was sh!t. You’re sacked.”
