Brighton vs Crystal Palace match thread

BenĆtez is the one person I don’t think you can blame here. I take the point about the goal: had he not been stood there, any through ball would have gone through, but he’s expected to play as a sweeper. That one you can chalk down to a good goal.

The rest of it is bullshit. He’s essentially a fancier-sounding Russell Martin- completely welded to one philosophy, obsessed with playing out the ball, even when it’s clearly not working. Why keep inviting pressure?

We joke about conceding in the first ten minutes, but it happens every bloody time. Sooner or later, a decent side is going to get hold of us and absolutely slam four or five past us. That’s probably what’s going to happen today.

Personally, I think this experiment might have worked twelve months ago. It’s not going to work now. I don’t think we’ve got an inherently bad defence. I think we’ve got an inherently bad system, and that’s the difference. Yes, players are making individual errors, but the system keeps putting them in situations where those errors happen.

With a bit of luck, he’ll be gone after this week and we can get somebody in with a bit of defensive solidity.

Today was an accident waiting to happen. After what happened against Forest & Lyon what do we do? Virtually the same line-up, virtually the same approach, virtually the same tactics from kick-off. And hey presto, what’s happened in the last few games has happened again.

There is some serious issues with how this club is being run, we replace good defenders with Donkeys, they can't defend high balls in to the box, have no leadership at the back, can't pass, too slow at playing out from the back thus allowing them to be pressed in to making mistakes. How on earth are BH&A so much better than us its has to be down to Parish and how he is running this club he seems to have well passed his level of competence!

We just cannot defend - I called this in the window - you cannot replace Guehi and Lacroix with 2 loanees and a free transfer.

That’s all on Parish.
The defensive recruitment has been poor. But given that maybe don’t play a set of tactics that constantly leave the back three completely exposed and out numbered. Just a thought

This isn't on Sage but exposing the defensive frailties that the transfer window didn't repair. It's 'Men vs. Boys' at the moment with the match already won by Brighton. Damage limitation exercise now.
