Brentford

apologies for diving in and being a bit self indulgent ... but ...

Im so looking forward to Brentford as its my first live game since 1990 (Cup final) as Ive lived in Australia, Philippines and Vietnam for last 35 years.

I used to go to every home game and a few aways between 1977 and 1980 when I was at School at St Josephs. I don't think there were season tickets back then - just rock up to turnstile with your quid.

Regular in the Holmesdale for all those years. I even have a great pic of the Holmesdale at the famous Burnley Friday night game when we got there about 4.30 after school.

For the Cup Final just gone, I couldn't get a ticket so flew from Hanoi to Sydney to watch with my son and the Sydney Supporters Club. What an amazing evening at 2.00am and packed by midnight. Yes, I did cry a tear!!

Anyway, managed to get a ticket for Brentford in the old stand (61 years old now so want a nice view and calmer experience) and so excited. Hope we all have a great day and so extra special for some of us.

Enjoy it. It'll be interesting to hear how the experience has changed since your last visit.
BTW there were season tickets in the seventies - you just tore out the relevant ticket to get in.

Yeah I remember those ticket books. Then they started putting pointless adverts in in between each game ticket. Used to get on my nerves when tearing out the wrong bit of paper! 🤣

I had a junior season ticket in 1979 and was at Burnley game as well .
Seam to have a vague memory that the junior season ticket was 40/50 quid ,but I’m not certain .
Equivalent today is 250 £ with inflation ,wonder how much a junior season ticket is now ?

Had a bit of time today so went to the ground and the shop.
Relived the old 68 bus route I used to get to school every day from Herne Hill and to the ground.
Can't wait till Saturday.
any suggestions for a good palace boozer pre game?
Otherwise the Fanzone might do the job I saw today.
Thanks for any suggestions.
So nice being back again.

The obvious one on the side I come in (Selhurst station) is the Clifton Arms, a couple of hundred yards from the ground. It does get crowded, though.

Welcome Home!

I got to the ground early for the Burnley game in '79 and parked my car close to the Clifton Arms.
After the game my car had gone and been replaced by No Parking cones. Had to recover it from a Police pound. Took the edge off a bit before my drive back to Kent.

Heavens above.
Ecstasy followed by agony.

Thankfully I never had to recover my car from a 'Pound'. I too drove back to Kent and enjoyed some celebration tipples in the 'Chequers' Public House in Bickley !

Did you live in Herne Hill? If so, whereabouts?

I see this game as a battle of set pieces and long throw ins - who wins these takes the points.
I think Pino will encounter another difficult game against their right back, Kayode, who looks like another potential superstar.

Firstly I would suggest that Brentford were not expected todo much after losing a few "star" players but have proven everyone wrong, Thiago looks like a decent replacement and they still have Kevin Schade and Lewis-Potter. Palace will be out to stop the rot 1-0 home win. Hard fought.
I can agree with that statment, I had them down for failure after losing not just their players but replacing Frank with a so-called "nobody" that I even added them to my annual "three to go down" bet, however I'll be glad to loose that small amount of money to see them defy the odds instead.

Same way as I bet on Arsenal to win the league each year 🙂 So that should I have to listen to their whiney, arrogant, gloating fans then at least I get a pay out.
