Bournemouth match thread

"On-field Match Officials, VARs and AVARs (when VAR is in operation within a competition) will only be eligible
to officiate in a match where:
i. The match does not directly involve a club for which they have a conflict of interest.
Circumstances in which there will be a conflict of interest, meaning that the individual will be ineligible
to officiate, include, but are not limited to:
a. Where the match directly involves a club for which the individual has indicated an active
interest in seeing that club achieve success. This includes the individual currently or previously
being in possession of a season ticket of that club, or declaring themselves as a supporter of
that club.
b. Where the match directly involves a club for which the individual played one or more
competitive matches at a first team level.
c. Where the match directly involves a club with which the individual has a material personal
connection. The question of whether a match official has such a connection shall be a matter
for PGMOL to determine in its discretion having regard to, amongst other factors, family links,
romantic or other close personal relationships, or business dealings with any member of the
club’s board of directors, management, players, or staff (whether permanent or temporary).
d. Where the match directly involves a club from the same town or city (excluding London) in
which the match official resides.
ii. The match does not directly involve a club which has a strong association with a club for which an
interest has been declared. The question of whether a club has a strong association with another club
shall be a matter for PGMOL to determine in its discretion".
 
OG was asked about the refereeing after the game. He referred to ‘inconsistency’. I can’t help wondering how Neil Warnock would have replied!
 
Let's clear the table of "was it, wasn't it" discussion regarding Richards' second yellow and assume that he did pull back the Bournemouth player and the second yellow was correct. What then exempted the two Bournemouth players from those same rules that applied to Richards, and for offences that involved rougher foul play?
The ref knew what he was doing. When I suggest he is bent, this doesn't mean that when he gets home after the game he finds a brown envelope with used notes put through his letterbox. It means that if he displays even the slightest level of bias or favouritism disguised as ineptitude and inconsistency, he is guilty.

The 'Select Group' performance is measured by a Key Match Incidents Panel which is made up of five members and is an independent panel primarily made up of former players and coaches, alongside one representative from the PL and another from PGMOL.

The aim is to provide an independent assessment of decision-making during matches and it sits every week to review major incidents and assess the outcomes of on-field and VAR decisions. Former players and managers (Match Delegates) also assess the performance and their management of the match.
 
Leaving aside the appallingly inconsistent refereeing performance, it was pleasing to see Hughes return to form and fitness.
He was particularly good in the second half.
We just need Wharton to follow suit, but may need patience as he's still off the pace.
Sarr did well yesterday, particularly when down to 10 men.
He put in a real shift, defending and getting behind the ball which was necessary as we were a man down.

A concern at the moment is that we only seem to threaten down the right, with very little impetus on the left.

Mind you, the goals v Fulham came from the left, so perhaps we're saving that for Wembley!
 
All I can say is refereeing is definitely getting worse, waving cards around like confetti puts them in a position where eventually players are going to have to go and it’s usually soft.
The fact that that clown yesterday bottled the Bournemouth 2nd yellow and then straight away gives Richards he’s second one for a lot less must surely flag up as a crass error when he’s being assessed.
I’ve never been one for blaming refs, because it can be sour grapes, but two home games on the trot now we’ve had a consistently bad performance all through the game, and we’ve actually still managed to get 4 points so no sour grapes, it’s just s*** refereeing

There would also have been a good price on the bold Mr. Hughes avoiding a card with this ref.
 
It's all been said, but the sending off of Richards was possibly one of the worst decisions I have seen.
Especially when opposition players committed much worse fouls on yellow cards on at least two occasions and stayed on.
The second yellow wasn't even a foul.

This was a game where we just had to avoid injuries and give the fans something of a performance, but the spectacle was totally ruined by a moron of a ref.

How does that help us when the referee is as bad (bent) as yesterday??? More likely they will pat him on the head, say what a great game he had and maybe even award him the Cup Final as a reward

As he was the ref who disallowed Eze’s perfectly good goal first game of the season, then it does make you wonder.
Coincidence? Or does he consciously have a gripe with us because the Eze incident embarrassed him
