So, when it comes to televised games, we're bottom of the league for the first five - well and truly anchored in 20th place.

Each Premier League club's percentage of televised games, and Sky Sports vs TNT Sports breakdown​

  1. Manchester United: 100% (5/5 games) - Sky Sports: 4, TNT Sports: 1
  2. Arsenal: 80% (4/5 games) - Sky Sports: 3, TNT Sports: 1
  3. Aston Villa: 80% (4/5 games) - Sky Sports: 3, TNT Sports: 1

I'm sure our Leeds game will move to the Sunday 2pm and will be on sky sports? If our European game is on the Thursday and not the Wednesday?

Yes, but that's not the issue. It seems (to me at least) that neither of the providers want to show us if they can avoid it. I suppose SKY know they're going to have to show a minimum of 7 Sunday games by reason of our involvement in the Europa League Group stage, so why bother showing Palace games they don't need to. I'm sure they'll ensure between them that they choose to televise us for the minimum number of games they're obliged to show outside the 'forced' Sunday games.

I think I'm right in saying that the 'forced' Sunday games attract a lesser fee than those they choose to show.

Sky don’t love us, never have . Our recent successes have been nothing more than an inconvenience to the negative narrative their commentators like to give on Palace. Our lower league history is something they can’t get past it seems.

I get you. It's been like this for years I think. The tv schedule always revolves around the "top 6"

I found this which you might be interested in actually:


"Domestic broadcast revenue is distributed on a 50:25:25 basis:

- 50% is divided equally between the clubs.

- 25% is awarded on a merit basis, determined by final league positions.

- 25% is distributed as a facilities fee for televised matches."

"Clubs would continue to share the current levels of international revenue equally, but any increase would be distributed based on where the clubs finished in the Premier League"

Thanks! So, if I read it correctly, the final 25% is shared according to how many of each club's games are televised.
 
Only really Liverpool, Man Utd and Arsenal pull in good viewing numbers for Sky. The next tier down are Newcastle, Spurs, Man City and Chelsea. They get relatively low figures for clubs like us and hardly anyone is buying Sky Sports to watch us. Given it costs them c£0.5m to £1m to live broadcast each match they are losing money showing us.

If they could they would love to avoid showing us and clubs like us and just show 38 Man Utd and Liverpool games. Thats why the EPL breaks up the tv rights into tiered packages so the likes of Sky need to buy some games for the likes of us to get the games with the big boys in.
