My 6 year old son has come home from school saying his best mate supports Arsenal and would it be ok to support both teams? It's been very hard to explain why he can't without using the phrase "that would make you a c**t".

Perhaps reword it with an answer:

"Yes of course you can, if you want to be a massive c**t".

That way you've addressed his question and answered it accurately, as opposed to enforcing it dressed as your opinion.

My young nephew (at the time) claimed to be an Arsenal fan although he had never been. My family are all Palace. Once he'd been to his first game at SP we never heard Arsenal mentioned again.

My brother and I feel a bit guilty dragging him to the dark side. Still what could he have looked forward to to if he had supported Arsenal.

You have to let him pick his own team. Once he's been to a few Palace games hopefully he will be caught up in it.

no different to all the Citeh shirts that have popped up in the last few years. Probably less puzzling given they're a London team. Growing up in the area there were always more Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs supporters at school. Only really in recent years that Palace is the majority (going by who the kids at my children's junior school support). What's also interesting is that some of their parents who support other clubs, are bringing their kids up to support Palace.

Was chatting to a black fella from Croydon not that long ago and when Wright moved to Arsenal, his whole family started supporting them over Palace, such was Wright's status in the black community of S London.

That may explain why all the blacks I saw on Sunday wearing football shirts were wearing Arsenal ones - even here in Birmingham!

They were only based in Plumstead for 27 years.

I’m from Merseyside- my eldest lad came home from his first day at reception and was really distressed that so many of kids supported Chelsea (Abramovich era) he announced that he was Palace because that was where he was born. I pointed out that whilst we did live behind the bingo hall in CP at the time he was born he was actually born in in the PRU in Farnborogh like all the other kids in Borough of Bromley . 'Woolwich Arsenal' evolved into 'Arsenal' and given that they moved to North London in 1913 supporters consider them a 'North London' club. Suffice to say,none of their current day devotees were on this earth when Arsenal relocated and have only supported the club at Highbury and the Emirates.

You certainly sound like a Woolwich Arsenal fan as you keep coming to bat for them.

Equally, by your logic, it is farcical that a club that originated, based themselves for 27 years, and presently name themselves after a location in South London create a club anthem titled "North London Forever" - attempting to rewrite history that is provably false.

An Arsenal shirt in Croydon (apart from visiting match-days like today) is more offensive than a shirt of Brighton, Millwall or Charlton... Especially if it is accompanied by a South London accent. Discuss

And of course it is doubly irritating when the Arsenal supporter is running up and down Selhurst in a Palace shirt. Zaha, Eze etc.....although i will accept that every football club's squad is littered with divided football loyalties. We all make compromises when trying to earn a buck.

Wandering past shirts of Arsenal, ManUre, Liverpool etc over here in ireland, no problem. Its geographically neutral territory although i smile on the rare occasion i ever see Brighton/Millwall/Charlton. But South London ? its Eagles country.

And a question : Are Arsenal the number one Cuckoo-in-our-nest ? or would that accolade go to another big club ?

You'd have been at the game, not watching on TV as I was, but when Easy came on, he was given a standing ovation by both sets of fans and on TV, the main commentator said it was great to see and Alan Smith said he wished that happened more but sadly it's so rare. You did your club proud by behaving with such magnanimity.

When Vieira - the last Palace manager to beat us - came back to Highbury with Juve, we gave him a standing ovation. {I was there, amazing game.} Wishing you all the best for next season.

I think what's most annoying at the moment is the idea Arsenal fans have that we are pals, like their little brothers or some patronising nonsense. I don't know many Palace who like them at all and if they think today will be a love in they are very much mistaken

We don't expect you to like us but that doesn't stop us liking you. We obviously hate the Sperz and those financially-doped c**** in West London. But we have respect for you. It's like England - Scotland. The Jocks hate us because they want to be the best British team. But we want them to win against anyone but us.

You punch above your weight and your club has always treated us with decency and respect. I know you hate us because you want to be the best team in London. But look what Wrig.hty did for us. And what Easy's achieved so far in his first season. He won you the cup last year and the Charity Shield and scored a hat-trick in his first NLD, two in the second, has won us the title for the first time in 22 years and we also have a Euro final.

You may not like it but we're genuinely chuffed for you lot.
