Born & Bred in South London..........supporting Arsenal

....don't even get me started about this one. Traitors one and all.

An Arsenal shirt in Croydon (apart from visiting match-days like today) is more offensive than a shirt of Brighton, Millwall or Charlton... Especially if it is accompanied by a South London accent. Discuss

And of course it is doubly irritating when the Arsenal supporter is running up and down Selhurst in a Palace shirt. Zaha, Eze etc.....although i will accept that every football club's squad is littered with divided football loyalties. We all make compromises when trying to earn a buck.

Wandering past shirts of Arsenal, ManUre, Liverpool etc over here in ireland, no problem. Its geographically neutral territory although i smile on the rare occasion i ever see Brighton/Millwall/Charlton. But South London ? its Eagles country.

And a question : Are Arsenal the number one Cuckoo-in-our-nest ? or would that accolade go to another big club ?

Glory hunters one and all. Expect to see more around but it would be a great laugh if we manage to pull off a win today in front of the world’s TV audience. This is our 50th televised match this season so they are getting to know the new powerhouse in world football !!!

Seen arsenal shirts / caps on adults and kids around Selsdon all week since they won league. Bet they have never been to a match. Glory hunters! Mind you I’m taking my Palace shirt to Seville next week. Anyone know of a decent bar to watch our game at?

Over the years I've been able to guess what football team a young black man from south London supports.

Almost 100 percent it's Arsenal.

Supporting Palace since the 70s there were very few black palace supporters .

I always thought this a shame, as football can bring communities together. Also we would have a better team.

Then there is Prince Billy born in St Marys Paddington, only about 123 miles from Birmingham, and I will use the term very losely " supports " Aston Villa, plastic.
and a certain Tooting Lad. The Mayor of London. Dreaming of walking past the civic offices on the way to a match.....on Merseyside.

Google tells me the Late QEII also supported Arsenal. Its ok cos Buckingham Palace is North of the River, different Palace to us. Her sitting with the Queen Mother in the drawing room. Watching the tiny telly. I wonder if she swore much while watching a game. "oi, referee, him wuz offside you Raasclart"

Seen a couple, a 468 bus driver with his Ar**nal scarf made me laugh. The Man City, Man Utd, and Liverpool shirts and scarves have been folded away for the time being.

Have to suspect his "support" comes from some sort of Eton in-joke - David Cameron was there and is supposed to be a Villa fan too (when he isn't confusing them with the Happy Hamsters of Stratford).

I think what's most annoying at the moment is the idea Arsenal fans have that we are pals, like their little brothers or some patronising nonsense. I don't know many Palace who like them at all and if they think today will be a love in they are very much mistaken

The guard of honour will be interesting

Agreed. Unfortunately, I have a Gooner brother-in-law who feels this way!!

I heard the Irish guy on talk sport this morning saying he's never seen so many arse shirts. Well stone me I go to 2 local shops this morning (Essex) and there's loads including Mum,Dad and kid with champions in gold letters on the back.🤬🤬

As I was walking down Whitehorse lane to the ground there was a fella in an Arsenal shirt washing his car on his drive, I thought seriously? How can you live up Whitehorse lane so close to the ground and support Arsenal?

That old saying of you don’t choose the team you support, the team chooses you is obviously bollox where this bloke was concerned

in Ireland we have a menu-driven choice of football allegiance. A classroom of kids will be ManUre, Liverpool, Arsenal, maybe one Eagle. All sitting together and having the banter. Unlike places like Newcastle, Southampton where you would probably rightly get your head kicked in for treachery.

I grew up in Bromley 5 miles from selhurst and my secondary school was full of the usual Arsenal, Man U and Liverpool, Palace were in the 3rd division, so me and my mate who supported us were in the minority, nothing changes really, even back then in the 70’s
Just a little story to bore you with, but a teacher was pointing at us one lesson and asking us who our sporting hero’s were, we had Kevin Keegan, Pele, Johan Cruyff, Mohammed Ali, James Hunt shouted out, when I shouted out ‘Barry Silkman’ the whole class roared with laughter and I heard a lot of whoooooo?? 🤣 said it all really, their local team as well!!

no different to all the Citeh shirts that have popped up in the last few years. Probably less puzzling given they're a London team. Growing up in the area there were always more Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs supporters at school. Only really in recent years that Palace is the majority (going by who the kids at my children's junior school support). What's also interesting is that some of their parents who support other clubs, are bringing their kids up to support Palace.

Was chatting to a black fella from Croydon not that long ago and when Wright moved to Arsenal, his whole family started supporting them over Palace, such was Wright's status in the black community of S London.
