Beware of Pride before a Fall.....Portsmouth, FA cup winners....finished 20th in the League next season

Location
south pole
Country
Netherlands
2008 FA cup winners. Then relegated to the Championship ( worst team in the Prem) , and relegated again to League One soon thereafter with acrimony, points-deductions and a financial shyte-Show....scary but true.

Enjoy the party tonight Eagles. Tomorrow we awaken with a hangover and new problems reinforcing the old adage of it being 'tough at the top'.

Maximum love to all the heroes at the CPFC family today. And to the many departed personnel who also got us up the ladder to be the mighty force we were today.

Go to bed, man.
Greatest moment in our history and you've turned it into a negative, bravo.

FFS, better we had lost then

It really doesn't matter. Ask Pompey fans if they would swap their fa cup win for 15 years in the premier League, finishing 15th to 12th every year. Every single fan would rather have that cup win. Look at the history of the premier League. Fulham up for 10 years no cup wins, Bolton, Charlton, Brighton, Forest, Bournemouth, Burnley, Swansea and loads of other clubs all comparable in size to palace, spending years in the premier League, with nothing to show for it.
Over the last 40 years of my life we've seen multiple squads come and go, full of talented players we all love.
This current squad is different class, only comparable to the 1990 squad.
Obviously we all want to go on and see palace win everything but realistically, this is probably it. This is now the best we've ever had it and my god it feels so good. We probably will get relegated at some point in the future, but really, right now, who cares?
If Guehi, Wharton, Mateta, Eze etc leave in the summer, they go having achieved more than any other crystal palace player in history and I will follow their careers with love and interest, hoping they do well.
For now, let's enjoy the end of the season, and most of all enjoy the fact that we are FA CUP WINNERS 2025!!!!!

Pfff well this thread can get deleted.

Pompey were being run by a dodgy businessman at the time, overspending giving Redknapp players destined for Madrid and Liverpool. Then the credit crunch took its toll (as it did on us!).

Palace have been generally well run. Selling Olise was a masterstroke considering what's happened since, and now Europe means we can probably keep all our stars and add to them.

Moreover, we can hopefully accelerate the stadium development now and we'll have picked up more fans with this cup win.

Bore off dread merchanting on the happiest day in the clubs history!! Some people can't bare to be happy!

to clarify, this Eagle would happily sacrifice a few limbs for our win today. And am ecstatic we won. And seeing grown men cry today was our finest hour. But that Pompey story was bloody scary.

Gaydamak who "owned" Portsmouth at the time was a crook who asset stripped the club and bought players with money they didn't have. Then the world recession came along and bankrupted a lot of people, including eventually Simon Jordan.

Parish is on another level. We are very well run. It's NOT going to happen.

Now be happy FA Cup winner

I had predicted on here, 48 hours ago , that we would win. Thrilled skinny that the portent i saw at Bologna was true. Its not just that we won, but the heroism we showed in doing it. Citeh could have played another five hours and still not scored.

Good man, but you also just told all Palace fans to wake up and start worrying about our doom and relegation to league 1, oh and bankruptcy. All in two years time!!!

Beggars belief!

Oh by the way

Crystal Palace Football Club are the 2025 Football Association Challenge Cup Winner

Enough celebrating time for bed! I will try and actually sleep 😆

Eh, a season in Europe and a first ever trophy? I'd take that even for a relegation season.

It's not your first trophy ? I remember when you won the Zenith Data Systems in what was it 1991. Beat a good Everton team 4-1 at Wembley to do it. Thing is although you won a Cup Final that day I think some fans would discard it (from club history) as it's simply not of the same achievement as today.

For what it's worth I don't think Palace will falter like Portsmouth did in winning the F.A. Cup. It's two different club set-ups, two different time lines. You can build on today and take it into next season.

It's not our fault no one thought it mattered. Did it have any more cache when it was the Simod Cup? Probably not...But more impressively Palace were also Evening Standard London 5 a Side champions in both 1959 & 1969.

Don’t forget the Anglo Italian cup, in, if I remember correctly 1971
