I think that's the two hardest games away to besiktas and Lyon out of the way now anyway. Get our premier league performances under control and we will have a good second half of the season.

Much better defensively you could actually see the back 5 lining up, on occasion you could see the midfield forming a line.
Okay its not Hodgson level but I didn't see anything like that discipline against Brighton
Like Brighton, Besiktas have been on a roll so its a decent result

Much better with Kamada alongside Wharton. Not sure how Timber gets back in unless he shows more discipline as a DM. The back three have been working better. Disasi getting credit from Matterface but playing the other two in their correct positions and the wing backs a little deeper has made a difference. Mateta had a huge game and McNeil did more in 60 minutes than Johnson did in all the time he was with us. Pino had a good game too. Of the starting eleven Benitez’s was the only poor performance.

I think Richards is only just a Premiership player. A big heart, but he struggles. Lightweight for a centre back and without Guehi and Lacroix around him, compromised.

I agree I think Wharton was much better tonight.

For me he did not have a bad game but seemed to lack sharpness. A few times he pulled back from challenging for the ball when I thought he should have. Not sure if it was just him trying not to give up a cardable offense or just not with it tonight. Some wayward passes also. Not the performance we usually expect. Not bad, just not the usual.

Maybe touch rugby, he felt contact and dived, was easier to stay on his feet and score. Sums up everything thats wrong with football.

Agree completely. Yes we've got a big game on Sunday but this is proper European levels now. Keep the best players on the pitch.

I thought Richard’s was good tonight, especially being back on the right. The three along the back other than the first goal where Disasi was caught out looked composed and did the easy things well. Previously they were giving the ball away often. Perhaps our keeper doing the long ball rather than passing it out to them helped? Let’s hope Henderson is back soon as he organises them better and just perhaps both goals against tonight he might of saved them?

I agree with everything else but I’m not sure about Mateta winning the game for us if he stayed on. He was excellent but he’s generally struggled after 70 minutes even when not returning from injury?
