Besiktas vs. Crystal Palace match thread

Kamada rugby tackled in the area, no penalty apparently!

Fine margins robbed of of a win at a difficult to go, they were undefeated at home in 8 previous games.

Totally. And when you think about it, that's all down to on-field leadership. Having players on the field who are going to rip you a new one if you drop standards, or constantly organising and being vocal. Who's doing that right now? Wharton is a great player, but Jedinak / Delaney / Luka he is not.
I am hoping this is what Henderson will bring back to the team 🤞🤞🤞

I'm delighted with a 2-2 draw after Sunday.
It was a fine performance in front of a hostile crowd and a dodgy ref.
Whatever Pierre said or did since Brighton it certainly worked. No way should he go yet.
JP needs to start against Newcastle.
Pino our MOTM.

This is my assesemnt as well.
But yeah we can all hate Mateta, but he is twice the player JSL is and trice the player Nkethia is. Sadly because I has hopes for both of the former.
Agree, but someone needs to get the salt and pepper pots out and explain the offside rule to him.
When I was a kid, we'd have called him a goal hanger.

It's a cliche , but that's a hard place to go .
The performance was good , and we were unlucky not to have scored more.
Yes we became sloppy at 75 mins ,switched off twice and were duly punished .
Overall .. very positive after Sunday

Much better with Kamada alongside Wharton. Not sure how Timber gets back in unless he shows more discipline as a DM. The back three have been working better. Disasi getting credit from Matterface but playing the other two in their correct positions and the wing backs a little deeper has made a difference. Mateta had a huge game and McNeil did more in 60 minutes than Johnson did in all the time he was with us. Pino had a good game too. Of the starting eleven Benitez’s was the only poor performance.

Well done boys. An encouraging performance which should have provided a win.

Should have if we could defend.

I don't think Besiktas were very good but they still made our defence look awful at times.

Newcastle will give the defence a much bigger test so they're gonna need to get better quickly.

Players are constantly running into pressing positions despite having no chance of actually applying pressure (Khalili being one of the worst at this). We just take ourselves out of the game and gift space to the opposition. It's been such an obvious problem all season which Sage hasn't addressed. There's no point in constantly trying to apply pressure if it doesn't have any effect. There needs to be much clearer triggers of when to press and that's completely on the coaching team.

JP Vs JSL is no competition.
JP offers hold up play, link up play, glorious missed chances and a few goals. Defenders always know they've been in a game.
JSL offers.... I'm still waiting. Sounds harsh but I've rarely been less bothered seeing a player hobble off.

It was an entertaining game, obviously better than the Brighton game. But overall frustrating and still huge question marks over our defensive unit.

Great atmosphere there tonight though and the Palace fans made themselves heard.

Certainly didn’t expect a draw after that performance on Sunday. So, I shall take it. Matetta made a difference, good to have him back. Our right wingback is pony though. Not sure what we can do about that. Still concerned about our defensive play, there seems to be a mistake waiting to happen from anyone of our players? I try not to have a go at refs as I once did it, but him and VAR were pretty poor tonight. The second penalty appeal needed Kamada not to chuck himself down as it looked easier to have a shot if he didn’t go for the pen even if the opponent pulled him slightly? There are still players like Mitchell and Wharton who on last season’s form would have given us a win tonight. In my opinion they were poor for lots of tonight’s match. But the team was more together unlike Sunday. Mind you Brightons performance Sunday would have won easily against us and our opponents tonight. On another point, Sarr looks way of the player we expect him to be. I can see why he isn’t being selected.
