Beckenham Cinema Fire.

jeez, there are some real Dinosaurs on HOL. What's the median-age on this thread ? 97 ?

when will somebody regale me with the music-hall on the site of the cinema ? and the happy days the first time their mum took them to see a young Charlie Chaplin

Mum and Dad went to Frank a Peggy Spencer's dance classes next door early 60's. I Saw my first ever Cinema Film there "Dougal and the Blue Cat" about 1971. Seen many a film there since. Anyone remember the old lady that used to sit on the steps with her pram selling papers?
My mum took me to see that when I was a little un.
For some reason it scarred the s**t out of me, and I had nightmares for weeks as I remember!

That'll be the Gold Rush and the Auld Lang Syne scene, not a dry eye.

Well, as a child, the (then) Essoldo cinema in Penge High Street was still referred to by everyone as the 'Empire' - it's former name as the Penge Empire Theatre.

I saw my first ever film there, too.......

I can only remember seeing one film there. 'Waterloo' in the mid '70s. I think it was a special showing because the film was made several years earlier in 1970.
