I think for the most part the team will pick itself. However, Chris Richards ( not discounting his twisted ankle ) leg seemed to have more bandages / stickers than skin against Brentford. On top of that Canvot was probably at fault for both goals ( definitely the second ) and although defensively he has improved he still seems to be learning his trade and prone to the odd mistake. I also think his distribution is limited ( just passes it short to Wharton or Kamada ). I like the look of Riad as he gives us better options when in possession and seems to be more of a threat from set pieces than Canvot. I know it is hard on Canvot but if Richards is fit i would play Lacroix Richards and Riad.

Have we had an update on Road?

His face told a bit of a story when he was holding his thigh 😬

I would personally still stick with Richard, La Croix, and Canvot

If all these players are fit, I envisage that they will start against Rayo Vallecano.
Looking ahead to next season, I very much suspect that Canvot will not start in central defence if the new manager plays a 'Back Four' but time will tell.

I think Lacroix, Richards, Munoz and Mitchell would be just fine in a back 4 - but it would be necessary to have one, and perhaps on some occasions two, holding midfield players to prevent being exposed in counter attacks.
Most teams only play with one striker these days so 3 central defenders against one opponent can seem something of an unnecessary luxury.
The 3 central defenders spend most of the game rolling the ball to each other in their own half.
Furthermore playing with a back 4 doesn't preclude attacking full backs; just watch Bournemouth who play with a back 4 and have 2 of the best attacking full backs in the league.
It will be fascinating to see how our new manager sets us up and whether certain players gain a new lease of life under him.

To my ageing eyes, Riad looks less than secure probably on account of his death of games owing to injury woes. Canvot, whilst having the potential to be an outstanding defender is inexperienced and has a costly mistake in him.
I am far from convinced that our defence will be 'Watertight' next week if Riad is selected.

Poor guy is injured quite a bit but he's not dead yet.

Riad played the full 90 in Morocco’s last match against Paraguay in March. However, uncertainty over his match fitness will probably mean him dropping out of the World Cup Squad. Morocco are 8th in the Fifa world rankings and at only 22 he is a seriously good prospect if he can keep fit. We may see him come on at some stage but I expect the back three to be Canvot, Lacroix and Lerma to start.
