At Alemannia Aachen 24th July 1976

The game was the first of a four game tour of Holland. Typical Palace, they have a Dutch tour and play a game in Germany ! !

The team were based in Arnhem and Aachen is just over the Dutch-German border and is where three counties meet. So you can have one foot in Holland, the other foot in Belgium and piss on Germany.

There were ten Palace fans at the game. The five in the photo and Neil Everett who was taking it. There was a man who was stationed somewhere in Germany with the army and his wife. The other two were Chris Wright and his mate who had moved to Rotterdam.

Above is the team sheet for the game.

Four days later there was a game in Holland at Almelo where Palace beat Heracles 2-0.

Then two days after that on 30th July it was a 6-0 win against Rijnsburgse Boys near Leiden. There were television cameras at this game and a small clip was shown in a documentary about Vince Hilaire. There is a link to it in another thread on this site. We were behind the goal that Palace are attacking in the video.

The last game was against Wageningen and Palace won 1-0 on 1st August 1976.

From left to right :-

Carley, Geoff, Wiz, Stan the Man & Yateley.

Real names :-

Stephen Carleton, Geoff Haywood, Simon Wisdom, Stan Churchillmann and Ian Silverthorne.
Always thought Wiz got his nickname from a certain recreational substance rather than his surname!

Is he still around? Haven’t seen him for ages. Back in the 80s and 90s used to seen him at away games with Johnny Vine and others. They were always mucking around and getting into mischief!
Wiz lives on the south coast but he has had problems with his legs so it is very difficult for him to get up to South Norwood for games.

I heard that Jonny Vine does not go to Palace anymore, just goes to cricket instead.
