AFCON Final

There are always problems like this at the AFCON. I think it is fair to taint more or less the entire Football Associations of the continent. Not necessarily the entire continent.

Fair point.
It seems many of the problems stem from animosity between the North African arab countries and the Sub-Saharan countries, with the Morocco v Senegal final being a prime example.

Honestly, I think the punishments will work the other way round.

I'll be surprised if Morocco are allowed to host a major tournament ever again.

Moroccan ball boys attack Senegal's reserve keeper
Disgraceful behaviour from both sides. The towel battle was shameful. Two words spring to mind describing Morocco with the first one being cheating.

I watched the Nigeria Morocco semi final and the final. Whilst being very impressed with how skilful a team Morocco was, I found them impossible to like for many of the reasons already mentioned:

- diving, simulating see-you-next-Tuesdays at every opportunity
- gamesmanship of the highest order (not just the players - the histrionics on the sidelines as support staff as well)
- nasty and dangerous tackling
- a sense of arrogance/entitlement when clearly they did get decisions going their way in both matches
- fans empty the stadium as soon as things stop going their way

During the final, it felt like a real life version of Escape To Victory at one stage.

Palace allegiances to past and present Senegal players aside, I was over the moon when Morocco missed their joke of a penalty and then lost to such a fine winning goal.

Agree on all those points.
You could have added the Moroccan journalists kicking off in the post-match press-conference as well!

It's customary to say at the end of a big tournament that 'the hosts have made a lot of friends during the competition'. Not this time, it's fairer to say that Morocco made a lot of enemies.

Glad the cheats lost and that Senegal deservedly took the cup . Morocco were a disgrace with their antics throughout the tournament ,the referees in many cases aiding their win at all cost shenanigans .

Senegal's goal was sound , no foul ,not even a hint of one ,if anything it was a soft penalty to Senegal
The penalty that was given to Morocco wasn't a foul ,a hand on the shoulder and the attacker throwing himself to the ground is not a penalty ,ever . If we are giving them as penalties there is one at every corner .It was the most daft decision of the week compounded by the fact that the referee was frogmarched to the monitor by the cheating bastds from N Africa .

Its never right to leave the pitch but by god the Senegal team had as good a reason to do so as I have ever seen ,they decided they were not going to be cheated and how we laughed when the muppet took the worst penalty in the history of worst penalties

Well done Ismaila

Exactly. That’s how much England fans wanted to get in.
The home team was in the final, in the anfcon, and still empty seats.
If England/Germany/Italy/Spain etc got to a euros final they could probably sell 5 million tickets each.
Morocco and Senegal can’t sell a ground out.
2 bob.

Imagine a tournament where the
home fans break into the stadium en masse and watch the game for free.

Oh, wait, that was the Euros final at Wembley

I put myself through watching the AFCON every time. Mainly due to our players. Every time the matches are poor enough but there are other entertaining factors. It's often the obvious politics and the ref. Which, once again, reared its head this tournament. Last tournament before this made Macclesfield look like a great pitch.

Harsh on Senegal that. One of the many cheating stunts that Morocco pulled was to only give Senegal 2.5k tickets for the final (and rough up those who were there).

Not sure why Morocco couldn't sell out, maybe prices? Their top league teams get big crowds and its a football-obsessed country.

Agreed.
FIFA president was openly upset by the result. The corruption appears to extend beyond the AFC.
