Whilst Watching replays of last 5 games opposition goal build ups you notice a pattern of Whartons play.

Where has his game gone ?

His passing is not what it used to be

His defensive play is far off his mark from last season

Is being captain a burden , as his on pitch passion seemingly has been lost & he cannot lead a team without it ?

I think he's being asked to do too much defensive work. Too much pressing and tackling. He's more the creator than the enforcer.

In my humble estimation Wharton is more effective deployed a tad deeper where he can receive the ball in space and dictate the play. His qualities do not extend to pressing and tackling.

So we could have kept Barry Bannon who scored as many in 50 fewer games.

He was so poor again yesterday. His confidence looks shot, which means his one-touch passes aren't coming off, and he's repeatedly conceding possession in dangerous areas. He was to blame for at least one of the goals. He should definitely be rested against Fulham.

It’s not just Wharton suffering, all the team are in a mess with Sage’s tactics. Mitchell is constantly losing the ball as well. Glasner had a tighter team and Wharton was slightly more defensive as well as being supported by those around him. The whole team is a mess and Sage is the problem. Not sure a new manager coming in can save us as we have a weaker first 11 this season but if they can make us tighter then Wharton and others will be back to their normal selves (hopefully)

It is a "Mess" at present, however we have only played 8 PL games, accordingly the season is in its relative infancy.
I have spoken to a number of supporters and the vast majority believe that Sage is not the manager we require. The name of 'Sean Dyche' received prominence in our discussions.

I'm surprised Dyche's name is being given prominence as a potential replacement for the present incumbent.

His style of football would surely soon be receiving an adverse reaction from folk on here and elsewhere.

The only positive is that we currently have 4 more points than we did after 8 matches of OG's first full season!! Straw-clutching moment.

The over-riding view was that we are in a battle to survive in the PL and Dyche with his vast experience in this League and lower, has the qualities to organise the team, especially defensively. He also has the experience of coping with the demands of European football evidenced by his time at Burnley.
Some asserted that we are not a club at the upper echelons of the PL so have to be pragmatic.

I don't like Dyche's voice, but I acknowledge that in isolation that is not a valid reason not to appoint him!

What was the question ?
Which unemployed manager shouldn’t be allowed within 100 miles of Selhurst Park ?

Wharton is a Rolls Royce of a player who's abilities are highlighted when team mates are on the same wavelength ,running into the spaces being ready for the pass ect .

Whartons clever passes look like they are incomplete . "He loses possession" they cry . No he doesn't ,well he might sometimes when he gets over adventurous but generally its other players not reading the game . He has also suffered more than most with the club selling our better ball playing centre backs . Guehi and to a lesser extent Lacroix would pass to him when and where he wanted the ball . The current three either miss him out completely or give him a pass that he can do little with with no onward pass being on .
Sages 'tactics' of attacking via the wing backs also sees Wharton time on the ball restricted in areas where he has been seen to do the most damage in the past . The only 'tactic' Sage actually needs is to get Wharton on the ball in the middle of the park in space at any and every opportunity .

The captaincy needs taking away . It hasn't worked ,he just isnt that sort of player . It's effected his own game as he try's to do too much with regard covering all angles talking to refs and so on . He needs to go back to concentrating on his own game ,not worrying about others .

No.

tactically its a very different way of playing. One of which he clearly isnt as comfortable with/still adapting

I would suggest that the prominence is due to the overwhelming strength of consensus that we do not want Dycheball at Selhurst under any circumstances
