Dean Henderson

I really rate him and feel what helps is he has something to prove. The only downside I can think of is his distribution, I recall many occasions where he kicks it out of play. In general though I think he is excellent and getting better thanks to a run of games

Dean Henderson has played with assurance making some splendid saves.
When he was competing with Sam Johnstone there were some who believed that Johnstone was the better goalkeeper and were a tad disappointed that he was sold to Wolves.
Whilst Henderson has flourished, Johnstone has lost his place to Jose Sa.

I was disappointed when he took over from Johnstone who I thought, at the time, was the better of the two. But, he has improved enormously this season and, although his kicking and positioning sometimes looks flaky, his shot stopping is extremely solid. I also think a lot of credit for his improvement goes to Dean Kiely and I hope we can hang on to him.

As for the question of 'legend' status, which is wildly overused in my view, Henderson has a long way to go before we start to compare him with Jackson, Martyn, Speroni or even Guaita, but the lad does seem to be well on board with the Palace journey, so maybe, in a couple of year's time he'll have a bar named after him in the new stand.

There is a 'Palace Legends' event in Chequer Mead, East Grinstead,Wed 26th Feb starring Nigel Martyn and Mark Bright.
I am seriously considering attending and if so perhaps I will be able to extend the hand of friendship towards the great and good on HOL !!!
I certainly count Nigel Martyn as one of our Legends.
A long way for him to travel from Yorkshire !

Me too and I thought the same, but he’s won me round, of course a keeper is as good as the defence/team in front of him at any given time, but there’s no-one else I’d rather between our sticks at the moment in the premier league

I was wrong about him. Becoming a very good keeper and those in the know knew. I was sceptical but I absolutely eat humble pie. He also looks physically stronger and bulkier this season.
As for being a legend… not sure we are ready for a bar or restaurant at Selhurst with his name just yet. Next on the Legends list must surely be JPM… What a turn around. Fabulous.

I only hope that I am on here in 12 months time raving about Eddie and Kamada.

A comedy dual-act. 😀

Still not surpassed Speroni in my eyes haha, but he may get there down the road!

I think very underrated around the league in general also.

I always liked Johnstone - who did well for us and was better than Guaita, who wasn't bad.
But Henderson is starting to look like he could be our best ever. He's certainly at least the best since Speroni.
I think Henderson up there with the clean sheets now - not top, but off the top of my head top English keeper for clean sheets. The only one I think could be close is Pickford - who, in fairness, has done a lot for Everton over the years. I wouldn't say he's kept them up singlehandedly but I would say they might have gone down without him.
I'm actually not happy that Johnstone hasn't done well, although it's probably better for us - I always thought he was a good keeper and didn't particularly blame him for not wanting to be a no. 2. We got decent money for him.
Henderson looks like he was worth the transfer outlay - although it seemed bizarre to buy a goalie at the time. Fair play to the club for getting him. They knew he was worth it obviously.

My thoughts as well. Johnstone was decent, so it was a surprise when the club paid circa £20m (with add ons) for Henderson. With that kind of layout clearly Henderson wasn't going to be number two.
After a bit of a shaky start he's acquitted himself very well.
