Do we agree ?

Can’t read it as it is behind a paywall. From the headline I am assuming it is basically saying we aren’t very good and haven’t developed as a club or something along those lines?

If so there’s some truth there but I’d ask what people expect for a club of our size? Staying in the EPL over many years is success. I’d also look to cautionary tales such as when Charlton sacked Curbishly to ‘push on’ and pushed on all the way to League 1.

What is a bit disappointing this season is the football from the end of last season is nowhere in sight and isn’t going to be. We will be organised and grind out some results but what we aren’t going to see is any fluid or exciting football

Agreed.

We are part of a small group of teams that have been promoted and managed to stay in the PL, many yo yo or go down and sink into oblivion (see Luton next one on the list). So the media might not agree but just hanging on in the PL is an achievement for a club that is historically Championship level.

Utter crap written by an ar**hole who could well be an Arsenal fan! Insulting to write an article questioning why our club even exists, as if winning the league is all that matters. We’re all a bit down after yesterday’s result but this is the best Palace squad and manager we’ve had since the 80’s and it’s being strengthened with each window. Dougie and Steve are doing a grand job building a club on a limited budget. Our academy is state of the art and hopefully the new stand will be completed in the next 2 years.
As a palace fan of some 60 years I’ve never been more optimistic about our club.

From the outside looking in its probably how most non Palace fans see us and there may be some truth in it .
I wouldn't say being cautious with your ambitions is a bad thing though , the lower leagues are littered with clubs that reached for the stars before they were ready

It’s an easy obvious point to make, it has been made far more eloquently by others. This article is just click bait rubbish reads like it’s been written on a bus home after ten pints.

It’s as useful as asking someone why haven’t they got a bigger house or drive a better car. Everyone strives for what they can get within their constraints.

You were doing so well to that point. I could not agree more with the rest of it but I genuinely think that yesterday was an anomaly; and the grinding results have been more a consequence of Olise and injuries (especially Wharton) than anything at issue with the players and coaching.

Mark my words! Man City will go on a procession and close the gap with the Micky Mousers. Liverpool will have to win their last game - at home and one they must see as a banker today - and they won't.

I see us as anything but mediocre. Are we good enough to challenge the top 6? Of course not. But in the grand scheme of things, we are way better off than a lot of clubs not only in England, but world wide.

Our owners are keeping the ship steady and not getting carried away just to 'maybe' get into Europe. It can happen no doubt, but I am content right now with what it is. Too many horror stories of clubs overreaching themselves and I don't want Palace to go down that route.

With a club of our general stature, so many consecutive years in the Prem(And unless we totally fall apart will be in the Prem next season) is nothing to sniff at.

There are some parts of the article that has truth to it. But whoever wrote it can f*** off. From our point of view it’s the most successful time we have ever known, holding our own in the strongest league in world football. Yes the team of 91 finishing 3rd was outstanding and was my most memorable season but this era of Palace is a different animal in a different world.
Ask Luton fans, Leeds fans, Charlton, Sheffield fans etc etc. they would all give there right arms to be supporting a team that was in its 12th continental season in the elite league. Yes I would love us to be better, better in the league, better in the market better to watch but we do cut our cloth accordingly. No real danger of over spending, no danger of ffp.

What those running Crystal Palace are doing is running it like a proper business. Some of our signings have been outstanding value… some not (you can decide who). Stability is king in this league. I’m convinced with this chairman and OG in the dug out we will push on. I think the wind got taken out of our sails last summer with a lot of factors all coming at the same time. Time will tell but I know for sure I’d rather be in our situation than say Luton’s.

From the outside looking in, it’s probably true that the perception of Palace is that of a club that can’t break the cycle of running as fast as it can only to stand still.

Most sensible people on here have an appreciation of the financial challenges of staying in the Premier League while trying to avoid falling foul of PSR.

The construct of our ownership also comes into play. I think Steve Parish is a combination of a blessing and a curse at times. But his record as Chairman and where the club sits today - in comparison with previous incumbents, speaks for itself.

I very much doubt that the author would have written this piece ( which I confess I haven’t bothered actually reading ) at the end of last season. Because it did look like the perfect storm of the right manager, the right players, playing some irresistible football. I dared to dream that we might actually be in a position to make that next step forward. But of course I should have realised that this is Palace, something will go wrong and it will come ‘ out of left field ‘ and leave my hopes dashed. Cue Olise leaving and the hang over from our players not having a summer break and proper pre season.

And I think that is why there is a lot of frustration on this board this season. Some justifiable, some patently not. We dared to expect more but have instead got more or less what we are used to.

I have to say that while I definitely don’t want Palace to get relegated, I’m pretty much done with the Premier League. That won’t stop me buying a season ticket again next season but my enthusiasm isn’t what it was. I’ve been going to Bromley home games this season when not clashing with Palace home matches, and it’s a far more enjoyable experience even if the standard is a lot lower.

I can't argue with any of this.

With regard to your disillusionment with the Premier League, which I share, it would be easy to dismiss this as the moans of an older supporter looking back on halcyon days.
However, my son who is in his twenties and many of his friends share the view too.
It is not restricted to the older generation.
VAR, rip off ticket prices, amended kick off times, over hyped media coverage, greed, cheating...I could go on...

This affects supporters of all ages and may explain why lower league football has it's appeal with it's more traditional focus and genuine atmosphere.
