Hughesy

Well deserved today, some of his jinking winning tackles were brilliant. Good stuff as a team performance against the champions, decent point. This season we've faced quite a few 'top teams' & only lost to Liverpool. Hopeful going forward this season, looking good Palace!

I must admit I was never a fan of Hughes under Hodgson , always seemed to be the guy that lost his man , didn't or couldn't track back ect . Maybe Roys system was just too rigid for him .

Glasners style seems to suit him better a more fluid system where he can be forgiven for the odd lapse of concentration . Been very impressed with his contribution this season ,probably our most improved player in the last 12 months and will give Glasner a selection headache as to who plays with Wharton

Best player on the park today ..........Who's he to Hughesy ! .

Great game today. Has a David Batty feel. Likes to get stuck in and has a great work rate. Unfortunately gets punished as the game is less physical and he pays the price Difficult decision in relation to Wharton, who has all the qualities of following in a similar trajectory to Rice. Could easily be here for 5 seasons, build a team around him and sell for £100 million to a bigger club. Not sure you can accommodate them both with Lerma and Doucoure in the wings, doing the more defensive duties. At least one needs to play as I think we need to be more adventurous in the attacking midfield imho. As a result I feel Wharton would win the race.

He's the sort of player most managers would privately admit they'd like to have but fancy Dan poseurs are more attractive to those who make the decisions.

Love him. Our little Vinnie Jones - always just a gnat's whisker away from his next card, but two assists speak volumes.
I genuinely don't mean to criticise but I actually think comparing Hughes to Vinnie Jones is a big disrespect to Hughes himself... He's far better than Jones ever was! However I do understand why you've made the comparison.

For the younger supporters on here they may not realise that Hughes burst onto the scene as a 16 year old for Derby County and although he's 29 it does seem like he's been around forever!! In fact unless I'm mistaken when he first broke into the team at Derby there was talk at one point of Real Madrid/ Barcelona being interested in him!

I've always been a big fan and I think this season he has been superb under Glasner.. He's alot more talented than people give him credit for in my opinion but I'm also realistic enough to know that he does tire easily these days.

He covered every blade of grass yesterday and managed the full game. I think he’s looking fitter than at any time since he came to Palace. His timing in tackles was much improved (so no yellow card), his passing was terrific ( especially for the first goal) and he ran the midfield against some of the best players in the world. If he continues to play like he did yesterday he would be my pick for captain if MG is sold.
