Afternoon all.

I have a question for you all. I was not on here back when Pardew was our manager, I’ve never quite understood what the issue was with him. I know he went on a bad run but I don’t remember it being dull and joyless (roy) or clueless (FDB and PV second season without CG).

We looked a good team at times and every manager we’ve ever had has had worse runs than Pardew had so I’ve never quite understood the bad feeling on here about him.

I’m not saying I want him back by the way but it wouldn’t bother me if he did turn up again ( I really hope OG Stays and sees us through this choppy spell) and I would rather have a stoned and drunk Pardew than moyes.

Pardew got us to a cup final (worst day ever… got a ‘neutral’ ticket off a pal, turns out to be right in the middle of the manc hardcore fans… was fun when we scored and miserable when they won).

Anyway, be interesting to see what you good people think and say about the former ‘Al… super al.’

I quite liked him, we couldn’t defend, but at least we attacked and had a go. I know we slipped into relegation trouble but it was never boring with him in charge. Also loved the way he came in and said we’re targeting the FA Cup and we came so close, I know it was a painful loss, but cup runs always leave fans with good memories and I thank him for that

Pardew gets teams going in an attacking sense but can't organise a defence to save his life. When he first started, he inherited a team that was well drilled defensively due to Warnock and Pulis being in charge before him. For a while it all went quite well.

However, as the defensive organisation gradually ebbed away, we just kept going on long winless run which would include games where we'd score 2 or 3 and still fail to win.

2015/16 season we were fifth after 19 games and looking good for Europe. Then we won two of our final 19 games, including a 14 games winless run, and finished 15th.

Same in the next season. We were 7th after about 7 games and then lost six in a row and looked bang in trouble.

He would have taken us down in the end so had to go.

Also, probably not repeatable on here but there are lots of rumours about him being an awful bloke behind the scenes.

Lastly, his dancing during the FA Cup Final was sackable by itself.

I suspect if Anton Du Beke has seen 'Strictly Come Pardew' performing his dance routine, he would approve of the gyrating hips and flexible movements. Pardew was probably re-enacting his routine from his days at 'Scarletts' and other similar venues.🙂

Statistically a very streaky manager. With us, as with other teams under his tenure, there were great winning surges but depressing winless runs as well. Ultimately, the latter became more the norm and he was fired because of a slip towards the relegation zone.

I remember his tactics being fairly predictable after a while. We were too open, too often, and at critical points in key games. There is one match which springs to mind towards the end of his tenure: Swansea away. 4-3 up after a rollercoaster game, we failed even to try and close the game out. We conceded two goals in the last ten or so minutes to lose 5-4. Whilst the Swansea game is the one that sticks in my mind, it was far from a one off.

The other points people have already made about his character are valid imo. One thing which I do feel can be repeated is his reference to our left back Souare - who had been involved in a very serious and career threatening car accident - looking "a bit bashed up". Insensitive at best.

Same issue with most of our managers. Starts well and ends in a disaster run of results.

Sure that's most managers really even the ones that win trophies.

Pardew and Viera gave me some fantastic memories over the years with the cup runs and the football we played. Both ended in similar fashion although pardew was box office losses like the 5-4 at Swansea.

That kinda sums us up as a football club? 😅

That made me chuckle.

It was never boring under Pardew, and I remember hoping he'd turn things around for that reason, but by the end it was chaos. I also think anyone over the age of 40 would have died of heart failure if he'd stuck around for much longer such were the rollercoaster rides of many of the games. The worst thing to come out of the Pardew reign were the Newcastle fans who suddenly appeared on the forums stinking the place out with their whining.

Echos my view, took over a good defensive team and told the players to 'express themselves'

Sounds familiar.

I’m sure his Reading side went 9 games in a row keeping clean sheets in the championship. I remember them playing against us near the end of that run and I’m sure they had Matthew Upson in defence.

Reading went 7 games in a row without conceding a goal and during that run they defeated us 1-0 at Selhurst Park.
John Salako was at Reading at the time and played for them in the 1-0 victory. Matthew Upson played for Reading that season and I think he also featured in that win.

Pardew. My least favourite Palace manager , of all time. He seemed to specialise in dissing our players, by name, in the post-match interview.

We always seemed to play very well. Looked good on the pitch. Never got slaughtered by a rugby score. Always within touching distance of success........and lost every feckin game by a gee hair.
