The club have now issued the above lists.
None of the 1st team squad and loaned out players have been released. (Even Franca has been retained).

Kamada has been offered a new contract and talks continue with Clyne.

I was surprised at a couple of releases in the Academy, namely, Zach Marsh and Kaden Rodney.

I thought Marsh and Rodney were two of our standouts. There has to be something going on there.

There is an general assumption that if they are the standout player in their year group that they are likely to make it. Academy football is so misleading.

The prem mandates that we have an academy, IMO this isn't a good thing. Its just leading these kids on.

So no Zaha, no Moses, no Mitchell, no Wan-Bissaka, etc?

If there are no academies, what do you see as the pathway to 1st team PL football or, indeed, the pathway to any professional 1st team?

Captain and played for England u18s, player of the season, very strange.

He made one u18 camp with England 3 years ago and hasn’t been called back, which is pretty telling.

That was the same season that he won U18 player of the season for us.

It seems like he was top of his age group around 16/17 but clearly has slipped down the pack over the last few seasons, which happens often.

Misleading for fans maybe, but I think most of the players know the reality.

Rodney and Marsh both still have a great chance of careers as professional footballers - that’s no bad thing!

I think there should be academies, just not that they are mandated and not from U9 up. The commitment for the kids and families is immense.

It just forces us to field teams of players that are not going to make it an ANY level.

I cant remember who we released last year that people were also un in arms about? Have they got clubs?

(Loosely linked, Olise's brother has just been let go by Chelsea, he's been there since U9s...if he doesn't get anther gig, which lets be honest is likely, he's basically been strung on for a decade. Surely that isn't how this is supposed to work?)

Or break the whole system and go USA college style.

Academy players released/sold by us in the last two or three years include the following:
  • Malachi Boateng plying his trade regularly with Plymouth in League 1 after a stint in the Scottish Premiership.
  • Rob Street just been promoted to the Championship with Lincoln City
  • Jake O'Brien now at Everton
  • Kofi Balmer just signed for Bristol Rovers in League 2 after release by Motherwell
  • Sean Grehan plays for Doncaster Rovers in League 1.
  • Franco Umeh sold to Portsmouth in the Championship last Summer but hamstring problems meant he missed virtually all of last season.
  • Ola-Adebomi was sold to WSG Tyrol in the Austrian Bundesliga last Summer and featured nearly 20 times last season
I suspect there are others who I can't remember who are making a living in professional football somewhere.

Academy football - the best on Ground - to ain’t going to cut it

Pity a few could not be loaned out to Div 3/4 for a season

Can only wish the best to those being let go even one all way from Australia-

Yet they need to learn resolve , take notes from many rejected players aka Eze, Ian Wright - push on !

i see David Ozoh is on our retained list despite online reports of his contracting expiring this summer.

I did recently mention that a Derby supporting mate had been told by their manager that Ozoh had another year at Palace but some preferred to go with capology.

Who knew, the internet is not always 100% accurate.
