Listened to BBC Radio London commentary on last night's game via Palace TV, Emma Jones 'commentating'. We often seem to get her commentating on our games and she is dreadful, but last night was the worst yet. Mateta nearly scored after 2 minutes, but she hadn't even mentioned the game had started and was still droning through the line-ups. Throughout the game, the listener has no idea what's happening - who has possession, where on the pitch the action is taking place, substitutions. Minutes go by with no mention of what's going on!
She clearly thinks she's some kind of stand-up comic, burbling away about the food at half-time, or the motorway services on the way to the match, and laughing at her own empty nonsense. And when that stream-of-consciousness runs dry, she just keeps repeating stuff she has pre-prepared about how many games we have won, or how many Southampton have lost. Meanwhile, somewhere out there, there is a game of football going on.
She obviously thinks she is a sparkling personality brought on to entertain us. In reality, she is an inane empty barrel. Am I the only one who finds her intensely irritating?

100% - in terms of commentating on the game, it was particularly poor, 98 minutes of football, with about 15 minutes of what was actually going on in the game.

Completely agree….she was absolutely appalling. I ended up with her through Palace TV. Didn’t realise it was on Talksport. I used to really envisualise the game from a radio commentary…she made that impossible.

Watched the game on a Canal+ stream.... the commentary was in French, the players' names were spoken exotically & you 'canalways' turn the volume off. Probably made as much sense as this Emma woman!

A mate of mine listened to the self-same commentary and reported to me that the game was poor and that we were out of salts.
When I saw the highlights I wondered why we hadn't won comfortably.
Has David Coleman retired?

Yes, absolutely appalling. And who was the co-commentator? He was also bad. To make it worse they kept talking over one another. Do they actually get paid for this?

I didn't react strongly immediately, but realised quite soon that I hadn't actually heard very much about the game, basics like who's on the ball and which part of the pitch the action was - it was poor and if I know in future Talksport are commentating on the same game I'll go there if it's her again.

There’s so many dreadful commentators around now. Obviously there’s so many games and so many platforms these days, with the need to box tick as well, they have to scrape the barrel, there’s just not the quality around to cover everything.
The sky plus Channel is a good example, there’s so many lower league games available to watch sometimes, obviously every game needs a commentator and all it seems to be is a mumbling boring ramble of stats and facts about the club and the players and not much reaction to what’s going on on the pitch. I know this from watching Bromley games.
