Munoz

Now, i know it's only clickbait, but according to the 'sun' he has a £25m release clause & that the new DoF at City will be looking to activate it in the summer . . .

If it is true about the release clause, he is as good as gone. It seems City never win with Rico Lewis playing at the back.
I'm not sure when Olise's release clause kicked in but I was surprised City did not go for him after one year with us. The talent was obviously there. But they chose to extend Mahrez a year, if IRC

25M seems rather low for Munoz, considering he was 8M when we bought him and in Hindsight, how good he is for us. If true, someones messed up.
Have they?

If he has tripled in value in a little over a year, it's a hell of a piece of recruitment.

As good a player as he is, if the club have managed to pluck a relatively unknown 28 year old out of the Belgian league and turn him into a £25m player in a little over a year... that's certainly not messing up.

yes. 25M is very low for a release clause - and will put very few teams off, which I'd have thought is the point of one, in part anyway - so we don;t lose them 'on the cheap'.
he's a 30-35M player for me at the moment, as his style WB's are 1) in demand and 2) in very short supply.

When we signed him for £8m, I'd assume £25m sounded like a very ambitious release clause, particularly given his age.

I think Munoz is a fantastic fit for our system and one of our most important players within it. But I also think he has some quite clear limitations which would be more exposed in a different team/system.

It's not often you see full/wing backs going for £30-35m.

AWB? is the first that springs to mind

but as I said, In demand, and in very short supply.

Agree, £25m isn't great but it is 3 times what we paid, so i can see the rationale if his agent was insisting on a release clause . He will be 29 in a couple of months and so is probably at his peak.

Of course in this market i think it is better to keep players like him and Mateta as they are so critical to the formation we play and replacements will be difficult to find and/or very expensive.

Was hoping only Guehi would go this summer, but this is Palace so maybe it will be 3 or 4 players.

Never a dull moment etc

The point of a release clause is that the player can be released at that figure. So if three clubs are bidding, we still only get the release clause figure, any more than that is a signing on fee/salary that goes to the player.

I guess it’s the price we pay for having a successful season!

Other clubs will look a Munoz and go, blimey, he’s a great player - and want him!

Unfortunately, I can see this happening to a number of our players this summer

I know what you mean, but I think AWB is the 3rd most expensive right back ever, valued very much for his potential at the time more than anything - he's more recently been sold for £15m, which is probably more indicative of the market for full backs.

As I said, I think Munoz is excellent and undoubtedly one of our most important players - but I also think it's unlikely a bigger club is willing to pay significantly more than £25m for a 29 year old who will have limited resale value and who is yet to prove himself at that level.

Assuming this release clause talk is even true... I think £25m would be pretty decent business.

So Palace's answer to that should be 'so dont buy him then'. Since when did we agree a transfer fee with clubs based on what they might or might not get for him when they sell him? If they dont want to pay what Palace want they wont get him. Unless there is a release clause but this I do not believe
