2.5 years ago I had a tour around the academy. A great place to introduce and train youngsters for a footballing career. However, there was one building set aside for a new gym and I believe a rehab/medical centre with hydrotherapy pool. This is still unfinished, considering the carcass of the building was already there, one wonders why it isn't finished. The building of the new stand , now known as the old stand suppose to take two years. In your dreams.

I believe there were objections from the 'nimby's' last year for the expansion of the site which held things up for quite a while.

While talking about the academy, I had higher hopes of producing first team players than this. Is it that none are good enough, or is it they're not getting the chance? I don't know. I feel we are not that quick to try any youngsters currently. I feel like Esse, for example, has barely played. Rak-Sakyi barely worth mentioning for us but was proven at Championship level. Kphora, I don't want to be rude but I always feel Imray looks better.

The academy currently looks like its producing lower league players at best . Salako (not sure what his involvement is) was on Talk Sport and said we had nothing coming through that would make the first team .🙁
David Ozoh is probably the best of the bunch that are out on loan .

I can see where you are coming from.
I heard a discussion on this topic and one view expressed was that if you do produce a player of supposedly high potential the player will probably be snapped up by one of the big clubs before you can commit them and you get a minimal fee.

Jesse Derry was given as an example.

I suppose in contrast we were able to stave off interest in Kphora and sign him long term.
Nobody knows though if he will make the breakthrough and he does seem to collect injuries.
I don't think either Ozoh or JRS will make it at Palace, at least under Glasner.
He doesn't seem to see them as part of his plans.

Hodgson used to get a lot of criticism on here for not trusting the youngsters.

OG seems to have avoided that while doing much the same thing.

Ultimately, if they are deemed good enough, they'll get their chance.

So far the Academy hasn't produced as much as you would hope in terms of genuine first team potentials

Need injuries to blood youngsters. No manager, tasked with achieving XYZ, is going to put his own career on the line to do favours for young players.

The Premier league is by far the best in the world, the richest and full of the best players in the world, its unrealistic to expect a country of 70 million people to produce enough players good enough to compete against 8 billion.

Who was the last manager to try youngsters a lot. Probably Venables who seemed to bring a different one on as a sub every week from the Youth Cup winning teams. Of course, they were different class and that was in the old division 2 or 3
Hopefully, this is where the league stage of the Conference League can play a part - although I'm not sure of the squad we have named

Youth team players don't have to be named in the main squad for European football . The club submits a 'B' list of players that are eligible from the club .Youth players U21 that have been at the club for 2 years will all be on the B list .
Of the first team squad I think Justin Devenny might just (signed August 23) sneak onto the B list which will free up a space on the A list (25 players ) for a player in the first team squad

Well that would normally be the case but as we only have 17 players I guess he can go on any list he wants .

I think Hindolo Mustapha has a big future personally.

Salako playing a canny game there to throw the footballing vultures off the scent of our incredible talent

The concern I think is that several other Premier teams regularly loan out to other Premier clubs or Championship teams. However, Palace seem to loan out mainly to League 2 and if successful then to League 1 teams before they leave. JRS and Ozoh have been loaned to Championship clubs but were they successful?

Lets hope so and reports are generally positive . But he is 19 now and needs to be pressing for some first team action .Maybe get him out on loan and see what he is made of playing with the bigger boys
He's already a full international with Sierra Leone and I could well see him as part of the 1st team squad once he's fully back from his injury. I hope he'll get minutes in both the carabao and (assuming we qualify) the league games in the ECL,

Surely the academy has several functions. It will turn up the occasional diamond like Wilf and AWB whilst providing opportunities for aspiring local footballers to get proper training, experience and education. Some will go onto have football as a career, some earning us a transfer fee when they do. The best ones provide back up for the first team.

It’s also connecting the club to the community and being seen as giving something worthwhile back. I don’t know if its cost outweighs what it earns but £50 mil for AWB suggests we make money.
