Marc Guéhi

I’m not suggesting we should sit on our hands . The club has made steady progress, not sat on its hands, and it’s more of that I call for.
I can see where you are coming from over getting players in, I think everyone can agree the squad needs a few added. As ever the problem is do they improve the team for the money we have.? Getting that in the £8m-£12m range can be done but they are not easy to identify. It’s a lottery at times . Muñoz, £8m yes. Nketia, nearer £30m not yet he hasn’t.
Sorry, that’s not what I meant to infer. The sitting on hands thing is the feeling a lot of fans currently have about the management at Palace as they see the clock tick down to the start of the season with no strengthening to the squad other than loan replacements.

I know they didn’t make a massive difference but we lost Ward and Schlupp at the end of the season as well as our two loans so squad depth has reduced.

I’m surprised we haven’t looked at a couple of frees to help out in the short term, maybe we have. I just hope the club has more in hand than I currently think they have.

If he's that kind of price how the hell aren't other clubs swarming around?

Chelsea ought to be in there, Arsenal ought to be in there too. Makes no sense at all.
It makes total sense if his agent has relayed to all teams showing interest that is Liverpool or nothing

This is broadly where my head is at as well - the notion of 'needing to sell to buy' is a choice, if it even is the reality.

We are a multi-million pound business with millions of pounds of sellable assets and millions generated in revenue a year - the idea that we can't front any sort expenditure seems completely ludicrous to me, particularly with the Sakho/Benteke context you mention above.

We can, and in my opinion should, show more ambition.
If I recall correctly, the Sakho and Benteke deals were financed by loans from Harris and Blitzer who recognized our dire need - namely a serious risk of relegation. Those loans were largely repaid with the AWB money.

I think the club had outstanding loans from Textor which, if true, will almost certainly have had to have been repaid when he sold his shares to Johnson.

Furthermore, Parish has said that we have some big outgoings this year on previous purchased players. I don't know the terms of the original deals but it seems there's significant sums that need paying out his financial year.

Now that we are in Europe, we also have to keep to UEFA,s FFP rules which are stricter than those of the PL at present and these include a cap on wages as a percentage of costs and we may be near the limit.

it isn't a simple matter of get your chequebook out etc.

If, as has been previously suggested, Chelsea have a matching right clause in Guehi's contract rather than a sell-on clause, then Chelsea may simply wait for Palace and Liverpool to agree a fee and then step in and match it. What Guehi would do then is uncertain given that he came through the Chelsea Academy and may still have a desire to play for them at some stage.

The club have made it known that we need to sell Guehi in this 'Window', accordingly other clubs might believe they are in an advantageous bargaining position in terms of the transfer fee.

Right, but funding transfers with investment/lending from the board is exactly what I’m calling for - the fact we have done it previously, and then repaid it by selling an asset we already held doesn’t at all convince me we shouldn’t do it again. We also have far more valuable assets in the squad now, so the risk is reduced.

Any instalments due on previous transfers have long been known about and would presumably be built into any budgeting for the year.

Given the expenditure of some of the clubs who compete in their competitions, I don't think it’s at all likely we are at risk of breaching any UEFA financial rules. I understand our revenue is much lower, but even with that factored in I can’t see it.

The reported price that was paid for Textor`s shares suggests a valuation on Palace of close to 450 million, which seems high. I wonder if Johnson didn`t just buy the shares but also the loan!

I’m going to get slaughtered for this… strap in.

Everyone says MG has all the cards, but I don’t think that is entirely true but it is going to take real balls of steel…

There is no way a club out there would not be willing to pay £35/40 million for a player of his age and Rolls Royce quality. However, Marc I think will stay and go on a free next year. Win win for him, guaranteed starter so pretty shoe in for World Cup.

Now Parrish can’t let that happen, he can’t let MG go for free but Marc is under contract so it’s a stale mate if he’s not willing to go or move anywhere.

So Parrish has to do this.
Offer him a signing bonus of say £10 million plus increase in wages to sign an extension with a low buy out clause of say £45 million or so. If he won’t sign it and I know it’s self harm… he gets benched. I know I know, he’s the captain etc etc but he is not looking out for us and somebody needs to start making a stand with these players that are happy to run there contacts down.
He will not like it but it’s business and Parrish says he will always do what’s right for Palace. This is it.

I’d rather cut my nose off than be held to ransom. With the World Cup at seasons end would he risk it? I also think Newcastle should do it to that dick Isaac.

Players only have the power because clubs let them. This will change in the next decade as was pointed out today on talk shite, people are cancelling there sky and tnt subscription at a huge rate, people getting apps and sticks. The big money is going to drop massively, it’s completely unsustainable.

Just watching the PSG game and remembering how they recently got crushed by Chelsea maybe they will make a bid. Their defence looks shocking

Maybe Jesus owes us one and could have a word

It’s been reported that Guehi might stay because Liverpool aren’t meeting Parish’s ( 1 ‘ r ‘ ) valuation. So although Parish expressed a preference for getting a fee v. nothing next summer, it indicates he’s also not willing to let Liverpool have Guehi on the cheap.

Parish also said that if Guehi doesn’t leave then a new contract has to be put in place. So a version of your proposal has already been mooted.

Otherwise I totally reject your other suggestions. A contract is a contract - Guehi is perfectly within his rights to see his out. He’s responsible for his career, not CPFC. He’s not agitated for a move and it would be unacceptable to the Manager to have his captain “ benched “ leaving him without his captain, one of his best players - and with no replacement either. That I’m sure would have Glasner looking for the exit. It’s definitely not the right thing to do - I can just imagine how that would sit with the rest of the squad and anyone offered a contract by the club.

IMO, personally for Marc, i think he would be mad to leave, another season at Palace, guaranteed starts, guaranteed World cup spot, then next summer, go where he wants, abroad i would suggest, Spain, Germany, PSG, the easy life, there is no way Messi would still be playing if he had spent most of his playing career in the premier league, not great for Palace financially, but we should be tapping up a CD, who is coming into the last year of his contract

Konate. Except he won’t want to come to us.

Loans are no given directly via the people you mention they still go through a financial institution with a % added on.

The loans from Textor was to cover us over covid period and to fund the Academy.

A new FFP term has started Prem wise and the UEFI FFP is a joke it has proven that when likes of Chelsea keep breaking it and what is punishment fines.

This is how clubs do transfers as well (I remember Palace even when we had sold AWB we had to go out and get 30-40m loan)

Blitzer & Harris funded transfers under Big Sam in Jan window 16/17 it has been mentioned many times by him and he believes its one of the big reasons we survived that season also those players went on to serve us for a long time (Luka 15m, Schlupp 13m, Van Annholt 10m)

If you wanted to you could just get the chequebook out but you need to be smart about it this is what Newcastle has done.

For me if Marc refuses to go this window when big clubs are offering deals so that the club can get something from it he is a p**ck.

Who him or the club, every major club in Europe would take him on a free, as long as he isn't to greedy, and that won't happen, its the 3rd deadly sin 😱
