Yep, that's my understanding, a medical problem making it unsafe for him to fly.Heard lots of people on social media etc asking why didn't he just get a flight from Porto, instead of driving to Santander, its a major vehicle terminal to the UK,, done it loads. According to rumours/clickbait etc, apparently he had a small medical procedure regarding his lungs. That alone, would bar home from flying. Whether this is the reason, who knows. Just sad really.

The BBC are reporting Spanish police reporting the car was being driven beyond the speed limit if that is true there'll be a problem for the insurers. That's a long old drive, absolute tradegy.
I didn’t boo on Sunday, but have to ask, when does all this stop.Another tribute for him, this time all EPL games this opening weekend.
Notice no black armbands for l'pool on Sunday.
The most sensible post I've read in months. I've often thought about saying something similar but didn't want to provoke the barrage of vitriol I assumed would follow. Ever more events are followed by minutes of applause, minutes of silence, applause in the 32nd minute or the 58th minute, and so it goes on. In my opinion a load of sentimental nonsense. I have a very vague memory of the Selhurst crowd, at a game against QPR, being asked to mark the death of Terry Venables's father. Or was that just something from a nightmare I'd had the night before? And then there's the hypocrisy of posters who claim that so-and-so and his family are in their thoughts and prayers - I don't believe that even 1% are believers, let alone people who say prayers. Let the players wear a black armband and get on with the game.I didn’t boo on Sunday, but have to ask, when does all this stop.
Sure, it’s sad that 2 young men lost their lives but so have many (un-named) others in similar circumstances over recent months. Its not really an event that warrants a period of national mourning, is it ?
