I watched our friendlies this pre season. Just flicking through my ‘app’ and came across Liverpool v Bilbao. You would think it was full blown premier league. Anfield is completely full. Coverage is full hd with all the different angles and proper commentary. We had a couple of blokes drinking beer and another walking a dog and our games played on training pitches.

How the hell are we supposed to compete with that. I’ve seen all the teams briefly over the summer and we seem to be the only ones doing it on the cheap.

our most ‘professional’ looking friendly was Crawley 😳🤣

Hi Den, we've done American tours the last few seasons, the Austria pre season is actually considered better preparation for a season than long haul travel and a money spinning tour for fans abroad. I'd actually look at our low key European pre season as a positive, like Rocky when he goes back to his roots to win the fight!

A pre season friendly at Anfield is the only chance many Liverpool fans will get to see their team 'live'. From what I understand even with a paid membership to get a ticket for a home league game at anfield they have to put in for a ballot system to be able to buy a ticket.

I was in Liverpool yesterday returning to London and at Lime St station many Liverpool fans (In Liverpool fc shirts) were arriving on inbound trains with overnight cases so obviously made a trip to the city to watch this game (maybe as it was the only time they could get a ticket).

I also heard that the club ran some fire drills during that afternoon or before the game so needed full stands to have successful fire evacuation tests.

The Liverpool fans are mostly foreign. Ireland in particular. The biggest team for Liverpudlians is Everton. The fans you saw probably got the ferry, then the train.

Yes who needs to ‘compete’ as den says, with all that glossy foreign friendly stuff? I know if you go to the states it’s good for Billy Bob American to see his team live for once and it might drum up a bit more far flung support. But pre season friendlies are for fitness, it wouldn’t bother me if they were all played behind closed doors at the training ground

First game since Jota died.
They stopped for a minutes applause in each game and load of old players laying wreaths.
