The East compared to The West. 2025. The ex Iron Curtain.

Location
south pole
Country
Netherlands
Any HOL-Eagles over the age of, say 50, will recall this.

One side of the curtain was characterised by :
- a oppressive surveillance government,
- Housing & careers by appointment rather than merit,
- a media diet of constant propaganda and mind-control,

- a tolerance of crime gangs who were often lock-step with political elites, - elections that offered zero ideological choice of candidates at the Polls,
- atheistic,

- For the raising of children, the role of The State outweighs that of the Parents.

- bully police & army,
- the negation of the idea of private-property,
- high-ranking jobs more dependent on 'who you are' than your skill set or track-record.

- People Censored - often with prison sentences.
- Citizens dobbing each other in for 'thought crimes'.
- People afraid to express their true opinions.

- microphones & cameras everywhere

- Abortions and a chaotic attitude to fertility & family-life.
- Women working with shovels down mines & elsewhere.
- Joe Stalin people-trafficking trainloads of population from point a to point b - seemingly chaotically.

- A currency that doesnt seem to have much spending power.
- History being re-written and past-historical facts being deleted from the archive. - New heroic history being penned with scant regard for factual accuracy.

- Art being divided into 'government approved & promoted' and 'banned Art'.
- Political Elites whizzing around in posh black cars while you are encouraged to use public transport.
- Shyte pop-stars & TV celebrities - who never achieved commercial success.

- Fake dissidents being promoted as heroic rebels.
- A biased nutty ideological education system.
- Supporting puppet-governments in faraway wars.
- Unpopular local Presidents & PM's ( see stadium photo of one such PM )

- Christianity criminalised.
- Violence toward the christian clergy.

The other side of the curtain : perceived as free, democratic, wealthy, christian, peaceful, creative, freedom-of-speech, meritocratic & fair.

1985......A & B........Poland/Hungary versus UK/France/Netherlands/US

2025.......you decide which is A and which is B ?

When the Berlin Wall fell, in 1989, many in The West felt vindicated. We scoffed, scorned and laughed. 'imagine your whole society imploding, your economy, your currency, your social contract. All collapsed into chaos and anarchy'. Well, be careful what you wish for Comrades. Our Eastern friends already had their Society-crash, unlikely to have another one anytime soon - not in the East.

Since our security elites worked out that the Internet can also be turned onto them instead of just being used to 'colour' revolutionise states they don't like the myth of free speech and freedoms in the west has been eroded as they increasingly seek to control narratives.

There is literally a battle going on between soviet/Chinese style control of narratives by European governments and the American first amendment.

I know which one I have more trust in.

Don't forget all those poor people, young, old, boys, girls, etc, etc., who died trying to get back to West Germany from East Germany. Those East German guards shot them, bloody animals. I was in the Army in 1964, stationed in Munster, West Germany, between 65 and 67, we had to do patrols on the border in the Hartz ( spelling ) mountains, It was grim, and West Berlin, the Russian sector, was like a bomb site.

100% Socialist economy, no wicked Tories or millionaires - why wasn’t it a Utopia?

Nonsense. By the time those of us who were old enough to actually remember the Soviet Union it had evolved from being a socialist economy into a totalitarian one.

The only economy currently showing any signs of evolution towards totalitarianism is the USA under Trump. Not the democracies in the rest of the world.

I used to spend time in Berlin immediately after the wall came down. Mostly in the west but sometimes was taken to the east, just to see first hand what it was like. The contrast was stark. The east was grey and lifeless. The west colourful and vibrant.

  • Fred Kite: Ahhh, Russia. All them corn fields and ballet in the evening.
  • Fred Kite: We do not and cannot accept the principle that incompetence justifies dismissal. That is victimisation.

  • Fred Kite: My politics is a matter between my conscience and the ballot box...
  • Stanley Windrush: Your politics - to each according to his needs, from each as little as he can get away with. And no overtime except on Sundays, at double the rate. That's a damn fine way to build a new Jerusalem.

Nothing changes

When was it a socialist economy in your view?
When was it not totalitarian in your view?
How is democratically elected President Trump moving towards totalitarianism and when will we know when he has got there?

All that illegal immigration from East Berlin I guess?

When it was conceived.
Before Stalin turned it authoritarian.
Trump is bypassing Congress, threatening members who oppose him with deselection, ranting about Judges who rule against him and firing federal employees who produce statistics that show he is lying. All clear signs of someone who demands he has the authority to rule just as he wishes and seeks to remove all opposition. That’s authoritarianism. We will know when Congress accepts it completely.

So dear old Lenin was not authoritarian!
It was a budding Socialist Utopia before Stalin!
All them cornfields and ballet in the evening!

the US President has power to appoint new Judges. Its Constitutional, not tyranny Wisbech. Trump is justified in being irked by Biden & Obama's Lefty shoe-ins. Or even Clinton hangovers like Looney Woke feminist Judge Ruth Bader-Ginsberg. She was an Antifa dream ticket.

anyhoo, getting back to the OP.

Will Western Europe ever have a Victor Orban type Leader ? i seriously doubt it.

Many of the Judges who have ruled against Trump are Republican appointees. Back when the Republicans were decent and law abiding. Trump can nominate Federal Judges but they need to be confirmed by Congress. Trump has no involvement in State level appointments.

Keeping anyone like the corrupt Orban away from European power is essential.
