Any HOL-Eagles over the age of, say 50, will recall this.
One side of the curtain was characterised by :
- a oppressive surveillance government,
- Housing & careers by appointment rather than merit,
- a media diet of constant propaganda and mind-control,
- a tolerance of crime gangs who were often lock-step with political elites, - elections that offered zero ideological choice of candidates at the Polls,
- atheistic,
- For the raising of children, the role of The State outweighs that of the Parents.
- bully police & army,
- the negation of the idea of private-property,
- high-ranking jobs more dependent on 'who you are' than your skill set or track-record.
- People Censored - often with prison sentences.
- Citizens dobbing each other in for 'thought crimes'.
- People afraid to express their true opinions.
- microphones & cameras everywhere
- Abortions and a chaotic attitude to fertility & family-life.
- Women working with shovels down mines & elsewhere.
- Joe Stalin people-trafficking trainloads of population from point a to point b - seemingly chaotically.
- A currency that doesnt seem to have much spending power.
- History being re-written and past-historical facts being deleted from the archive. - New heroic history being penned with scant regard for factual accuracy.
- Art being divided into 'government approved & promoted' and 'banned Art'.
- Political Elites whizzing around in posh black cars while you are encouraged to use public transport.
- Shyte pop-stars & TV celebrities - who never achieved commercial success.
- Fake dissidents being promoted as heroic rebels.
- A biased nutty ideological education system.
- Supporting puppet-governments in faraway wars.
- Unpopular local Presidents & PM's ( see stadium photo of one such PM )
- Christianity criminalised.
- Violence toward the christian clergy.
The other side of the curtain : perceived as free, democratic, wealthy, christian, peaceful, creative, freedom-of-speech, meritocratic & fair.

When the Berlin Wall fell, in 1989, many in The West felt vindicated. We scoffed, scorned and laughed. 'imagine your whole society imploding, your economy, your currency, your social contract. All collapsed into chaos and anarchy'. Well, be careful what you wish for Comrades. Our Eastern friends already had their Society-crash, unlikely to have another one anytime soon - not in the East.
