This is lush. If stupid starmer hadn’t jailed all those ‘racist far right rioters’ last year this would be slap on wrist time. As it is lots of these arrested should be having a visit to Gaol the terrorist scum bags.

After those two bozos getting 4 years 3 months for chopping down a tree there could be a surprise heading their way. It was a nice looking tree and everything but that seemed a bit harsh considering how many thousands of others get cut down every day.

It was an iconic tree that many visited on Hadrian's Wall.So if some twit burns down Kew Gardens we say "its just a bunch of daffodils?" One of them had a fair amount of previous I believe.

I don't have a problem with their sentences, it's the disgustingly low sentences that many others get that is the problem.

I'm not denying it's status or it's attraction, just that 4+ years for cutting it down when so many cases don't receive a custodial sentence and others are being released due to prison overcrowding seems disproportionate.
As to what an appropriate punishment would have been? I have no idea - maybe a few hundred hours community service?

Chopping down trees under supervision would be a start.
 
Frankly, I don't care about the Palestine Action protestors - they likely think they're Gandhi now. However, I'd make clear a shoot to kill policy for encroachment into military areas and massively up security. If people get killed - so be it. There are about to be loads of terrorist attacks so may as well do that now.

To be quite frank i fully understand crime where someone gains from it but sheer vandalism with no benefit is so stupid .Not a brain cell between them.

Totally agree. It's bad enough when it's pi$$ed up teenagers (who think everything will be "a laugh") but both these dickbrains were well past that.

There is no value to anyone in such a long sentence, the burden on society is actually increased.

The 'short, sharp shock' they used to talk about, community service etc. are best, they may come out worse than they went in with what they are exposed to in prison.
