US Politics

Which means he will do well.

Folk are not voting the middle any more. It's boring. They are turned off.

The Dems put a "middle" up against a blow-hard, frothing, pseudo-hard-right populist and got creamed. Dull dull dull against an opponent who absorbed all the media exposure with daft but impactful social posts. Every day his 2-liners were the headline there, here and everywhere else. Meanwhile, The Democrats... 🙄

This bloke has gone to the other end of the spectrum so Lord help New York. However, his lefty populism and (I suspect) adoption of the same 2 line social media lunacy which, in his case, is promising everything will garner the vote in a door already well ajar.

Perhaps he is finally the great white hope to take on the Trump juggernaut and provide some proper opposition required in a healthy democracy.

Although their poor economy...
Most of the Left posters here would say his 'policies' are great and would like to see them enacted here.

'Great Islamic Hope' more like.

I've always supported people getting what they vote for.

New York wants to be the new Detroit.....well enough of them do anyway.

It'll be fun.....not very pretty....but fun.

Like a lot of Trump's base I'm pretty pIssed after yesterday.

They seem to be trying to cover the whole Epstein case up....thousands of videos but one conviction....bullshit.

One of Trump's big promises was to battle the deep state but it was bollocks in the first term and looks bollocks in this one too.

Oh and the State department quietly took Al Nusra in Syria off of the terrorism list.....So, if you're ISIS in Syria but working for us that's fine.

War on terror my arse....feck these guys.

All of our guys who died over there.....dying for the politics of lies.
It was always so.

I have mentioned this before but a Ugandan friend once told me that Obote was considered a much worse and more despotic leader than Amin who came after.

Obote, pro West, supported by us, most people have never heard of him. All forgiven.

Amin, pro USSR, The Last King of Scotland and remembered for being a brutal tyrant who harboured the Entebbe terrorists and kept the heads of opponents in his fridge.

That said, i would also probably seek to nurture a close connection with Al Nusra. If he is half as good as his words, his regime will resemble Butlins compared to that he replaced. That has to be better for the average Syrian. And any proper stability and openness to the West that is not tied to Russia or China in that region offers practical Realpolitik.

No one in the world especially the NYSE believe that Trump has any resolve in pushing tarrifs through, remember the nearest thing to a tarrif is VAT as it is paid by the consumer.Japan have said any tarrifs will be met by them selling their large holdings of American debt, which would create a Tsunami like effect on Wall Street, the dollar$ has already come off from its top rating,The E.U. have basically failed to respond and Trump keeps giving them fresh deadlines for talks. Wall Steeet has invented the term TACO for Trump always chickens out.Bourses throughout the world are paying less and less attention to his ranting. If you like slow motion car crashes this is the place, with only one dummy involved.

Best place for 'em this time aof year otherwise they would stink the place out.

Intelligence services have decided it's a question of national security no doubt. Which makes you wonder what they know. It wasn't going to look good that Trump, the Clintons, Obama along with loads of other high ranking officials, were all there - whether they did anything untoward or not.
Trump and Clinton, yes, but Obama no.

Any list showing his name on it has been proved to be a fabrication.

I haven't even seen any Democrats calling it out either. (Could be wrong)

The leader was a co-leader at a time our boys were being blown up and heads were being cut off.

So no.

Christians are being murdered and having churches burned down in Syria and that wasn't happening under Assad.

America and Israel should be ashamed of themselves.

Outbalanced. There will always be blood spilt in the immediate aftermath of a revolution (where we still currently sit). After so many years of appalling autocracy, there will always be scores to settle. It is whether we can tie them down to some semblance of stability and respect for human rights in the medium to long term that really counts. Time will tell.

On the last line, I take it you are not referring to Israel directly bombing and killing Christians in Gaza? Something the press and people on here who see it as a crusade against Islam are surprisingly coy about.

They have to be careful what they wish for but I can see that being the way Labour turn if Farage gets in with a Trump-esq campaign. It will be like Weimar.

In their current form, Labour are more likely to swing further to the right than they are the left.

Maybe a Farage win would be enough of a shake up for them to pivot, but as it stands a left-wing Labour party seems a long way away.

Well, you shrug your shoulders with the former yet appear to think I should care about the latter more because they are Christians.

Well, I do actually and I've mentioned the killing of Christians and the attacks on their churches regardless of who has done it, ISIS or IDF or by Islamist radicals in Africa on Christians there.

I'm old enough to remember the word, Christendom and while I gave up religion decades ago, it remains part of my ancestry and thus when it's attacked I know its enemies would also gladly attack me.

Realpolitik. I can do nothing about it but hope something better comes out of it.

Granted, but it doesn't stop you having a position.

We are all in that same boat whatever opinions we have but it doesn't stop us airing our positions.
My position is power vacuums do not always close as quickly as one would like. Until the new lot get to grips with an ethnically diverse country, all the internecine stuff and international interference from Russia, Turkey, Israel and the USA, that is far from an easy task.

Thus, I do not like it, of course, but it is unfair to lay all the blame at the door of the current incumbents for the stuff you complain of. Hardly angels and hardly trustworthy, but I like their words and hope they will be able to be true to them in time. More importantly, I hope this is not another Libya.

You are literally talking about ISIS.

Unfecking believable.
