Guildford

Got free tickets for the Guilfest over the weekend - B&B in Godalming - nice! But Guilford? Don't get me wrong, I am not a snob, and actually like some supposed sh*t holes like the Medway towns, Gravesend, even Dover, I like them if they've got some character, soul, nice quaint old buildings and some old-fashioned independent traders, but Guilford? Like a spaceship made of lego that has fallen on our planet, another horror show from our town planners, I think I hate it almost as much as Maidstone. I am starting to believe Invasion of the Body Snatchers was not a work of fiction. Any comments might involve which other rent-a-kit nightmare towns there are, or you may take offence and really like Guilford, in which case I hope never meet you in person. The Guilfest was good btw, Stereo MCs, the Skids and a few others inc the Bay City Rollers!
I performed there this year and many years in the past .
The line up was better last year but was still a good weekend .

The list of places totally ruined by post WW2 town planners is a long one.
Sh1tholes in Sussex - Worthing to Brighton coastline, all awful, Littlehampton, Bognor, Crawley, Pulborough ........

We take our Granddaughter to Littlehampton a lot, good fish and chip shops. I must say the new development on the outskirts, Hampton Park is a complete eyesore, imo, God knows how many houses they are building!
On the plus side they are redeveloping the promenade and although progress is slow, it seems it will be quite impressive.
I agree with your other assessments. In my neck of the woods, Horsham the development over last few years has been absolutely ridiculous, tbf most are quite attractive but very expensive. Broad bridge Heath development is an utter disgrace, they even redirected the A281. When plans were first announced, a school was to be built, of course that has never happened

So right, and every time I drive through Billingshurst another, ugly new housing development has sprung up. Soon there'll be no green left.

Guildford High Street. Old, steep and cobbled. I have fond memories of a works Christmas party, which ended with my boss fighting/rolling around the cobbles with a member of staff one festive evening.
Used to be considered posh, but like many towns, have succumbed to the lure of JD Sports and the multi-screen cinema types.
Home of the original Stranglers, and I think Paul Weller is connected somehow. Seen Weller play a few gigs at Guildford civic hall, and he used to have a boat moored at Godalming (not sure if he still does)
Royal Surrey Hospital once saved my life, you'll all be pleased to hear.

We are indeed. My daughter gave birth there and they were excellent
