Palace potentially denied entry to Europa League?

The way a few clubs are going to be poised to appeal any decision by UEFA, the legal processes might take us into the start of the competition. I wonder if there's a precedent for some legal team to force UEFA to delay the start of competitions until legal redress is exhausted ?
And, in my opinion, this is all UEFA's doing, by sitting on their backsides, whilst their Rules fell further and further into conflict with developments in football ownership. Then they change one of the Rules , quite late in the day and give everyone this problem.

In theory Lyon shouldn’t have a leg to stand on they are bankrupt, why in gods name is there an appeal about their relegation to league 2, I don’t know? The fact that they are in bed with UEFA is where it gets murky.

I hope Palace take it to court, I can’t see any other way around this now and pre season is just around the corner….

If Lyon are reinstated to Ligue 1, we've got six weeks to lodge an appeal, and for the CAS to deliver their verdict before the draw on the 29th August.
Probably not as Conference League draw, currently including Forest, will be before that. Think they play their first game before PL season starts. So will be more like a week max.

The usual penalty is to start the season with a significant points deduction.

But then Rangers were hoofed out of the Scottish league...

See above.

They can't decide until the French authorities are done.

They could if they wanted.
or at the very least say that conclusively that we are in breach and the decision is that we won't be playing if Lyon are allowed.
or the alternative, that we ARE allowed, and the Lyon ruling does not affect the decision.

Make a f*ing decision and allow us to move forward, even if it's with our own legal proceedings.

By my interpretation of UEFA’s rule, the critical date is 24th July, as that is the date when Brondby play their 1st qualifier.

If we were to be admitted to the Conference League, we would replace Brondby, and of course Forest, who would be in the EL. Brondby would be replaced by, I think, Randers (the Danish qualification process for Europe is probably the most complex one I’ve ever seen).

Other have said that we would still miss out to Brondby, and that Brighton would be the English representatives in the Conference, but I think this is incorrect, due to the first level of the tiebreaker rule.

I would say there could be a bit of leeway if it came down to court injunctions, whereby the games in Brondby’s path could be delayed, but if HB v Brondby currently scheduled for 24/7 is played, the point of no return will be passed.

The draw for the playoff round, which is where Palace or Forest would enter is scheduled for 4th August with the the first leg played on 21st August. I suppose there is nothing to stop a draw being made with “Crystal Palace or Nottingham Forest” as in pre-replay FA Cup draws.

If, as some have said, it’s a matter of EL or nothing, than the deadline is still 29th August, but again we could be bracketed with Forest in draws until the situation is resolved. I believe we have the same UEFA coefficients anyway.

I don’t imagine Blitzer will be pleased if we replace Brondby.

Great post.

Agree, Bronby wouldn’t be happy and I don’t blame them!!!!
