Starmer had the law changed to enhance his own government pension.

You seem to have a problem with anyone successful who wasn't born in to poverty.

Starmer's father owned a tool making business, all this stuff he spouts trying to infer his father was a factory worker is total BS

How do you feel about for example, Stephen Kinnock the Labour MP, he is minted thanks to his parents having sucked literally millions out of taxpayers pockets in the UK and Europe.


Is he ok because he is Labour?

I don't care if an MP or Leader is from a rich or poor background, what matters is their character and their policies.

As a preference I would point out that far too many MPs from all parties have a simialr background

Private / Grammar School
University
First job connected to the party e.g. research assistant
MP when spot opens up.

It doesn't make them a bad person but like I say my preference is to have a wider range of experience rather than the group think uni party we have now.
 
Essentially I agree with Cummings analysis on Reform here.


They are a solution from a different era that won't work......but they are much better than the left being in charge of the UK.

Much how Labour came to power because people wanted rid of the Tories rather than liking Labour themselves. The only reason we should vote Reform is to get rid of Labour..... but with the understanding that they aren't actually equipped to solve any of the deep rooted problems bedded into the UK now.

Labour are ideologically committed to a vision of this country that I can never submit to and Reform are people who think we just need Thatcher's principles to sort the country out......errr no, this isn't 1979, the entire system has been rigged against that.

I've been saying this for years.

My best advice to people is be prepared....It may happen after the next election or the one after that.

But the welfare state is going to get cut heavily and it will mostly affect pensioners and the sick.....We will be a kind of Greece at some point.

I say that with no happiness at all.....I just see it as the iceberg the ship was fated to meet.

Be as prepared as best you can and hope that automation is the future and isn't being oversold.

It’s been known for decades. We were planning our marketing around this back in the 80s.

Retirements must be postponed for much longer than they already have. We are living longer, healthier lives and must stay economically active for all but the last few years when we cannot. A period of part time work should be the norm.

Immigration will still be needed but we can mitigate the need for it by working longer.

The problem is getting people to understand and accept it. It will be almost universally unpopular. So though is immigration.

There will be jealousy and blame directed at the lucky generation of boomers, like me. We need to be taxed more heavily.

Nobody needs to be taxed more heavily - quite the opposite.

Once again this ignores the physical damage a lifetime of manual labour tends to do. Knee and hip replacements, back problems and a host of other probable ailments and people should work until they're 70 or more? Good luck with that.

Part time work in lighter jobs can be done. I have no idea what’s it’s like where you live but here a high proportion of those on the tills in the major supermarkets are retirees, with the shelf stacking and picking being done by the younger folk. The DIY stores have retired builders advising customers.

If anyone is genuinely unable to work they shouldn’t be expected to, whatever their age, but if they can, they should.

I didn’t retire until I was almost 70 and I still work now at almost 81. Not paid work, my pensions are sufficient, but voluntary work.

Alternatively those of retirement age still in paid employment could get out of the way to free up jobs for younger people.
